Matterlight: More than a TCG Game

Hey, hey, hey! So crypto as an investment seems looking bleak with things happening on the Terra Luna front right now. We saw one dark side of decentralization as people can heartlessly crush something because they saw a weak spot and saw opportunity on it despite the crypto market will get a bad rep. Well, this is part of growing as an industry, the crypto industry. This will of course make blockchain developers lead to develop stronger ecosystems and networks.

Yet despite all of these, there is still something that remains a bright spot for crypto, and it is blockchain games. It is human nature that people would play games, especially those who grew up with Ataris, Family Computers, Sega consoles, and first to 2nd gen PSPs.

With the onset of blockchain games, those kids who grew up on console games are still very much gamers in their hearts and blockchain games gives them an avenue to give in to their game fixes and earn at the same time. As kids, they had a lot of time but as adults, a balance of work, family and play is on the mix. Blockchain games gives this opportunity to adults who used to play Mario Bros, Megaman, Contra Rambo and those classic games to feel their youth and fun side.

Not only console games but we had TCGs too like Magic the Gathering and Yugioh. I still remember saying, "Wrath of God" or imitating Yugi and saying "Swords of Revealing Light!" to my opponents. Ahh! Those were the days.

Blockchain games is truly making games not just mere pastimes anymore but an avenue to earn as well. So whatever happens on the other fronts of crypto, games are going to be resilient and people are still going to play. There will always be a market for games in whatever shape or form, and the best form are the ones where players have true ownership of the rewards they get from the game, especially those that comes with monetary rewards.

As adults now, of course, we cannot throw our time just like we used to as kids but if you put earning while playing in the mix, that really puts a different dynamics into the words "quality play time." So that means we have to have games that are not that time consuming, fun to play with, and most especially the one that pays.

And right at the moment, I guess Rising Star and Splinter Lands capture that essence, but you guys already know about that. I discovered something new while also dabbling on the dark recesses of the Tezos network.

So I found this new game which is coming out on June 6th (mint day). The game is called MATTERLIGHT. Matterlight is the newest outing from the developers of Tezotopia.

Tezotopia is one of the first games on Tezos but it is growing strong and expanding with new ecosystems being added. Tezotopia started slow as Ethereum games were more popular back then. Before it was mainly farming for Unobtanium (aka UNO) to gain money. But now they just released recently the Battle Systems, where you battle opposing mechanized units winners get loots dropped including UNO, and this June they will introduce Matterlight.

The thing with Tezos network games is that mostly they like to go with the "whitelisting" process and those whitelisted gets to buy NFTs at a lower price than the public sale. Then they let the market decide how the prices go after mint day. Normally they would set aside a day for whitelisters and then another day for public sale. The public sale is the chance to get in the game early if you were unlucky to get a whitelist.

Matterlight is like Splinter Lands, it is TCG game type. With many TCGs out there, what will set Matterlight apart is that it is part of the Tezotopia ecosystem, and so not only are you limited to the TCG part but you can seamlessly slide to do those turn based battles and farm unobtonium once you have earned enough from playing the TCG. So in a nutshell it's like you're not going to be limited to the TCG aspect but to the whole Tezotopia ecosystem.

Of course, it's up to you if you just limit yourself to the TCG part if you partake in this cool looking game. However, what really made Tezotopia still standing and growing strong is that the earning mechanism as P2E has been proven to be sustainable.

I am not yet truly knowledgeable on the whole game per se, as no one else really is except the game devs. From what I gathered you have to buy packs and form a deck comprised of 30 cards.

Well, if you're reading this, it's also probably late to get whitelisted, so the most we can hope for to buy the card packs will be on June 7th. Click this link to get a full grasp on how the presale and public sale will be carried out.

As seen on the image above there are four types of decks: the Light Deck, Flash Deck, Ultra Deck and Tachyon Deck.

The Light Deck is the cheapest (1 XTZ) because it contains 4 Common cards and 1 Rare or Epic.

The Flash Deck (5 XTZ) will contain 3 Commons, 1 guaranteed epic, and 1 Rare or Epic.

The Ultra Deck (15 XTZ) will have 1 guaranteed Legendary, 1 guaranteed Epic, 1 guaranteed Rare and 2 Commons.

And lastly, the Tachyon Deck (20 XTZ) will contain 1 Legendary or Mythical, 1 Epic card, 2 Rares and 1 Common

As always quality of art is what attracts me to TCG games. The art style I'm seeing now for Matterlight is like classic X-MEN comics style, so I'm down with it.

More updates to come when I reveal the packs.

Not my kind of game but nice to see more games like this popping up. Let's hope they keep on developing it for a while and don't just rug it.

Thanks for reading. Tezotopia is one the biggest gaming communities on tezos so this should be a cinch. Whitelist is hard to get for this one.
