My Technical Annoyance With the Hive Blockchain

avatar

I LOVE hives and the idea that it was founded on.

A community that got taken over and rebelled by renaming the blockchain.

I don't see hives as moving houses, I see it more as painting a house

It reminds me a bit of the book 2030, where "they" had finally figured out how to stop track housing. Now they had track communities. Instead of your house looking exactly like your neighbors, just facing a different way, your house was completely different. Instead, in an entirely different city, there was a neighborhood exactly like yours.

The new blockchain opened up doors for me

Now I could go about my daily blogging, and dailly thoughts. Still not having a niche feels ok, no big deal. I could ulog, write about my daily thoughts, the investments I am learning about, sharing my shelter-in-place perspectives.

And I still have steem, where, now I could freely post interesting articles on dlike, without feeling like I was "spamming the blockchain" because, well, now that things in the steemverse are a litte more automated, dlike posts, with all the autovotes I get seem to be welcome.. I can also share my drugwars updates, and my splinterlands battles, and and and, all the little things that made me roll my eyes when I saw them, because. Well, steem seems more like a storage unit than a place where you can pour your heart out.

But I can't figure out quite how hives works

I post through the steem blockchain, using my steem keys, but it shows up here?

Uh, steemleo? How did you hack that?

I can't figure out how the autovotes work... I don't want to autovote here (just yet) I want to see who the "real writers" are. I want to see the nuances of how your writing voice changes, I want to step back before I give you my 0.02 cent seal of approval.

I finally figured out delegations, but, I don't know if I really got rid of them, and when I will get my HivePower back.

Sometimes uploading pictures works, something it doesn't.

I don't quite know how to tag my posts...

Oh, but I DO LOVE that I have enough vests to create accounts

I had been wanting that privilege on that other blockchain forever.

I will be patient. But I don't like it

Damn millennial. Saw the fork announcement, got access to the new blockchain a few days later. Was able to post immediately. Was handed some wealth AND I am still complaining.

At least I am looking to be a community member who can onboard others

How cool am I.

PS. If you can answer any of my questions regarding why the heck posting on the steem blockchain makes my posts show up here, please enlighten me.

Also, let me know which other tribes have this sorcery going on. Is it just when you post through their interface, or when you use the tag?

And what is the difference between a post and a blog?

And how come I can't edit???

no, if you post on Steem blockchain it will not appear on Hive. Everything you had previously posted on Steem up until the moment of the hardfork is on Hive. But after the hardfork, posts only appear on Hive if you post on Hive. This appeard on Hive so you must have posted it on one of the Hive front ends e.g. hive.blog or peakd.com. If you are not already using peakd.com that is definitely the best Hive website (it is the rebrand of Steempeak.com for Hive). At the beginning everything is pretty much like Steem, that may change over time as new development happens on Hive.

As far as autovotes, if you had some autovotes set up on steemauto.com, that site has been duplicated for Hive with all the previous settings so yeah your autovotes would still be happening. The new version of steemauto can be found at https://hive.vote/ , you can go and adjust your autovotes there if you want.

Nope. I posted with my steem keys in steemleo which is a steem interface.

I’m a hive newb but not a blockchain newb.

Ok. This post was directly and purposely on hive. I was complaining about my post that went out mere hours before this one.

Steemleo is steemleo no more, they have moved to hive. It is now "leofinance" and the website will soon be moved to leofinance.io. Read more here: https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@khaleelkazi/kbmatonc

(edit - and your keys are the same on steem and hive, until/unless you change them on one chain or the other)

The eSteem app on my phone is now showing Hive, though the units and some of the iconography hasn’t been updated. Since Hive has (mostly) the same codebase as steem, pointing to a different feed on the other chain will get you working on that chain. My liquid balance is different on each chain, which is how I detected the switch.

While I’m not as active as you are here, I have many of the same uncertainties about what our New Normal is here (as if we don’t already have enough New Normals to deal with!) A thoughtful post!
