Lindsey || The lake

Lindsey and I would always hang out by the lake every weekend. We spent most time of our lives together. We have been friends since grade 1.

Lindsey James was pulled dead out of the lake. The whole town was in shock to hear the heartbreaking news.

With tears in my eyes, I turned to my mum hoping she would see the desperation in my eyes wanting her to tell me everything is gonna be okay, that Lindsey is gonna be fine. Mum looked at me with tears in her eyes and said you're gonna be fine and gave me a tight hug.

I understood everything but Lindsey was just 17 and we had plans.
3 days before the incident Lindsey just got her driver's license and promised to go for a drive over the weekend. we couldn't stop talking about the boy she liked asking her out for a date.

I ran to my room and locked the doors, stayed up all night crying, and couldn't stop thinking of Lindsey lying lifeless on the floor.

1 year passed after the death of Lindsey, walking down the lake, I stared at the glittering water before me, it was so calm as if it was harmless but a year ago it had dragged a beautiful soul into its depth and drained all the color from her skin, her chest wasn't moving, her eyes were closed never to be opened again. I wonder if the lake had captured her with its enchanting beauty, if it had lured her into going in or if she willingly went in.....

"No Jemma stop thinking about this, get a hold of yourself, I'm not supposed to be here". I tossed a pebble into the lake and walked in the opposite direction.
every weekend I would somehow find myself there, having the same thoughts.

It was a bright and sunny day, Lindsey and I were on the swing talking and laughing about old times and suddenly the weather was cloudy like it wanted to rain.
I turned only to find that Lindsey wasn't there anymore.
I heard Lindsey's voice, calling out my name for help.
Searched everywhere but couldn't find her. Saw myself walking down the lake and saw Lindsey drowning.

" hold on Lindsey I'm coming, I won't let you go this time"
I tried to hold on to Lindsey's hand, and Lindsey tried to drag me to drown with her in the water. Suddenly there was a heavy wind
Lindsey's hands became rotten like a corpse and her face was distorted.
Lindsey started screaming "Jemma!! Why did you leave me all alone in the lake? Why did you forget about me so quickly, Why!!" Come with me, friends forever remember...
I started crying uncontrollably and Lindsey started dissolving like salt into the lake.
"Lindsey don't let go, hold onto me, please"

I screamed Lindsey's name until I woke up, and God it was just a dream. I couldn't stop crying, my mum rushed into the room and turned on the light, and tried to comfort her frightened daughter.
Mum: shhhhhh, it's just a dream, you're gonna be fine my peach"
"No mum, I didn't try to save her, Lindsey died because of me, I saw her drowning but couldn't do anything"

Thanks for reading ❤
