The Slightly Fake Lava Cake - Baking For My Girlfriend

avatar

Hello! While I have been writing on HIVE for a few months already, there are still a few communities I would like to insert myself into - ideally, I'm aiming at posting in 4-5 communities each week. After all, I do need enough topics to keep writing daily for the whole year!

This one will be my first attempt at showing off my skills in the kitchen. My favourite things to do include experimenting with chicken dishes (I have stuffed absoutey wild stuff inside chicken.), incorporating cheese into whatever I can, but especially baking. I always try to prepare something for my friends on our board game nights, and sometimes I also just surprise my girlfriend with something small - and that is exactly what I will be writing about in this post! She has been injured for a few days now, so I made this to brighten up her day!

The Origin

I got this recipe from my brother. I believe he found it somewhere on the internet, but sadly could not find it again, so I apologize for not providing the original source - I simply can't access it. He's made it for me a few times when I was visiting my family (I live abroad) and I absolutely loved it, so I instantly asked him for the recipe.

It is a very classic treat that is extremely easy to make - I figured I should start off easy on my first submission, to avoid complete failure!

The Recipe

What we will need for this simple cake is a bunch of ingredients that I believe everyone has at home at most times anyway. You make it in a bowl and then transfer into a ramekin - all amounts of ingredients are eyeballed, but the ramekin it worked out for is fairly large. That is enough to feed at least two people - or one very hungry girl. Here is the list of ingredients; if you want to, you can definitely switch some proportions around:

  • 4 tbsp flour (any is good!)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 4 tbsp milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 3-4 tbsp sugar, depending how sweet you'd like it to be. You can definitely reduce it further as well, but all my friends have sweet teeth.
  • 2 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 tbsp oil (any is fine, I use sunflower)
  • 4-5 tbsp of Nutella

All you need to do is mix these ingredients together in a bowl and then put in a ramekin. After that, bake it in a pre-heated oven at 180C for 15 minutes.

There is a few things you can do to make it appeal more to your personal taste. As I said, my girlfriend loves everything sweet, so I add a little more Nutella and sugar, making it sweeter. If you prefer it darker, using less Nutella and more cocoa might make it better for you!

This treat is like a lava cake, as it does have liquid chocolate inside if you bake it at certain proportions. If you prefer it to be less liquid, however, you can either reduce the amount of eggs or add extra Nutella, which will make it have a more solid texture. I encourage you to experiment, as that is what is the most fun about baking anyway!

The final result - this ramekin is huge.

The liquidy inside that is, in my opinion, the best part!
