Trying Out Hashkings - Where Do I Start?

Hello! It is friday - the gaming day! Honestly, between curation, writing, figuring out Splinterlands market, as well as attempting to fix a lot of stuff around the house I've been postponing until 2022, I have not had much time to actually play anything - be it blockchain or not. I did my Rising Star missions most of the time and I tried to play as much Splinterlands as I could, but nothing new or exciting really happened.

So keeping up my schedule was about to get truly endangered, as I had no idea what to do for today. Luckily, what helped me come up with an idea was curating yesterday's content, as I got quite excited for one of the games that 1UP is partnered with - Hashkings! This post is just going to be a quick introduction of the game and my own plan of joining it. Let's dive in. Keep in mind this is.. sort of a written version of a "first impression video". I write as I go, so I might change ideas or opinions as the post goes on.

The Game

Hashkings is.. well, currently a farming simulator, where you can take on multiple roles in order to earn tokens. There is supposed to be more to it as development goes on (such as raids), but I want to focus on what I will be doing at the beginning of my journey - so just the farming part.

What I find compelling in the case of Hashkings (before even beginning to play the game, mind you!) is those multiple roles I mentioned. You are very much free to choose your fate in the sense of what you want to focus on - you can be a land or water baron, you could be a farmer and some other options. As far as I understand, you are not locked into doing only one thing; it is completely up to you how to play the game. This freedom makes me excited to dive in!

My Gameplan

The first thing I did after learning about the game's existence is do some research on how to even start. There are actually quite some great resources for this one, such as THIS GUIDE from the 1UP Cartel, which explains this way better than I ever could.

For myself, as I like to diversify what I am doing, I made my way to both Tribaldex as well as the NFTMart in order to research some of the important tokens and NFTs to start my journey. Because I am not sure how much I will enjoy my time in the game and whether I will continue playing it after a while, I have decided to test if it's feasible to make an absolute minimum investment - I limited myself to 1 SWAP.HIVE. This is an incredibly low amount, so I have my doubts, but let's see.

1 SWAP.HIVE Limitations

Obviously, having only 1 SWAP.HIVE limits me greatly. First of all, this means that I am out of any sort of land ownership - the cheapest land in the game is South America, which costs more than 5 SWAP.HIVE. I definitely will not be a land baron any time soon.. But maybe this could be the goal of my experiment - get to own land having only invested 1 HIVE.

Next up is being a Water Baron - can I be a water baron with this tiny amount of money? The cheapest water tower on the market is a whole 3.98 HIVE, so this is also out of the question. Turns out being a baron does require more than just pocket change!

The role that I am eyeing is Farmer. It would allow me to rent Water Towers and Land Plots, while coming in with my own seeds. It does feel like something I would need much more research for in order not to just waste my HIVE. Here is also where my biggest concern about the game is - some things are just a little confusing. When I go to the renting menu, I am told the price of a level 1 Water Tower is 0.06 per term. Just that. While I believe it is SWAP.HIVE, I don't really know what a term entails. It would be nice to have a clearer UI that makes it friendlier for new users to come in.

But that was a little bit of a tangent there, so let's get back to business. Renting the cheapest land and the cheapest tower would cost a total of 0.31 SWAP.HIVE/term (I think.). That means an initial investment of 1 SWAP.HIVE would only cover 2 terms, as we also want some left for seeds. The cheapest seed is 0.08 and then 0.09 SWAP.HIVE, so we could fit in a few of those as well at the start.

This requires a lot of research to have any idea whether I can do.. anything at all. I would have to ensure that I can get profit, don't just waste my HIVE and am able to grow my avatar to eventually become someone! Overall, I do not believe this kind of a strategy is for me - I simply lack the time to ensure all this works out well. Let's do something more luxurious.

10 SWAP.HIVE Entry

Instead of digging myself deeper into the hole of being ridiculous and only spending 1 SWAP.HIVE, I've decided to instead plan the usage of 10 of it. It is still a relatively small investment, but it already lets me do some more in the game.

To begin with, especially now that I am attempting to get into tons of different project in and out of blockchain, I will make a first step to being a land baron. My plan is to start by buying a plot in Mexico - for just above 7 SWAP.HIVE, it gives me the opportunity to rent it out at 0.4, while also not being the lowest - I have this small mental thing where I just like to invest into something that's not the lowest level!

This would leave me with just shy of 3 SWAP.HIVE left in the budget, letting me pick up a few more things of my choice - and I have a plan for that, too! I would love to pick up some MOTA in order to stake it and receive Seeds, which I can then either resell or end up becoming a Farmer of my own land. Finally, I will also focus on levelling avatars (once I learn more about it!), so I want to buy a few of those.

Closing Words

So that will end up being my investment! I will do all of this after the weekend, as I don't want to rush in without triple-checking, even if it's just 10 SWAP.HIVE investment - I tend to be overly careful with everything I go into, no matter the amount.

This post may have had a lot of rambling, but I wanted to try out this kind of writing mostly for myself - writing it in a completely regular way would've been boring to me, so I attempted something new. Either way, I am excited to try getting into Hashkings and finding out if it is indeed something for me! And if it isn't, I'll just rent my land out and still be fine.
