Hello all community members! It’s nearly Cambodian big ceremony day now, so my mom decided to create her first handmade crafts which is called cross-stitch pattern. She plans to do it for along time, but she always busy. Now, it comes to the right time when everything goes well and she try to save time to make it. In this post, I’m sharing the top things needed for cross stitch (as well as few helpful extras).

Material Use

Our cross stitch projects are made on Aida or Evenweave Linen fabric. It's made from 100% cotton and comes in various “counts” meaning holes per inch. “14 count aida” means that there are 14 holes/squares per inch of the fabric.

Aida is easy to count and great for cross stitch. It comes in many colors as well, we choose the white one. Next, Embroidery floss. It comes in dazzling number of colors and qualities.

The needles used for cross stitch tend to be called cross stitch or tapestry needles. They come in different sizes that relate to the thickness of the needle. The most commonly used size is 24 and this is perfect for 14 count aida and 28 count Evenweave/linen. And last but not least, scissors.

With sharp and short blades, embroidery scissors are ideal for cutting your floss without hurting your fabric. Becuase of the short blade you are often allowed to bring them with you on the plane. But if you want to be sure, you can also opt to travel with a nail cutter.

At the back of cross-stitch pattern, we hardly to notice that it is a peafowl art with time from 1-12, but I will wait until she finishes this craft so that I can enjoy the real beauty of it.

Well, it’s not really a free time for her, she still interacts with a lovely costumer. Many costumer in my village support our small business, we have a good communication with each other and as we live in a community, I usually go to bought something at their house or grocery store too. Generally, you can find many small family business in Cambodia, more than 30 family grocery stores in each village.

I think we take about 1-2 more months to finish our handmade crafts since we didn’t find a lots of time to do it, but we will try our best. I hope you enjoy my blog, stay healthy everyone.
