My New Beginning On Hive

Authored by @Nabi

INTRODUCTION TO HIVE: Hi, I'm Abigail by name and a newbie to the hive platform (as my unseasoned write-up will prove anyways๐Ÿ™ˆ). I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses and from the eastern part of Nigeria but residing in Lagos currently.

I'm in my early twenties (around the age where innocent people are being hit with the harsh realization that 'adulthood na scam').

Apart from surfing the internet in general and visiting social media platforms, another one on my list of long hobbies is watching movies. I enjoy watching Hollywood movies, a pinch of Nollywood movies and the other two I enjoy due to my love for the languages are Spanish movies and Korean dramas.

One would think that I must be a Pro in speaking and understanding the languages since I love watching them but unfortunately, I think I know only two or three words in Spanish, 'hola' and 'gracias'.

However, for K-dramas, I think it's a little bit better. At least I can speak some sentences to save my life. I have also come to realize -even though I vehemently try to deceive myself- that I'm becoming obsessed with K-dramas.

I love the language a lot that I've planned out how my future husband is going to be of mixed nationalities, Spanish and Korean, then probably raised in any British country so that he has the British tongue, and then our kids will also have both Spanish and Korean names (please don't make fun of me๐Ÿ™ƒ).

Another activity that would have been part of my hobbies if not for 'Sapa', is travelling to different places both inside and outside Nigeria and trying out their new delicacies (cos who doesn't love good food?).

While lack of funds has pushed down dreams like this deep into a box and locked it, getting into a platform like Hive where I get to interact with people from different walks of life, learn new skills and sharpen old ones will take me steps closer to unlocking that box.

As for old skills that need sharpening, I learnt fashion designing at one time and I practice from time to time even though I've lost touch due to lack of practice. I've made clothes both for myself and customers like the ones in the images below.

I even made one recently for a wedding ceremony.

I also used to write articles for a cryptocurrency-focused company Coinfomania.com where we publish news articles.

As I mentioned earlier that I would like to learn new skills on the platform and also sharpen old ones, I also hope to add value to the other members of the community with my unique talents, which, by the way, I haven't discovered yet (Don't blame me please).

Before I forget to add an unignorable part of my life, I'm a student of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), studying Computer Science. Unlike conventional universities, students of NOUN do not attend physical lectures. We practice what is called 'Distance Learning, as we receive lectures via video conferencing.

Most of the school activities are online apart from practicals and exams (as far as I know). Below is a picture of me during one of the practicals.

I have not always been a fan of open universities. I remember the first time someone mentioned it to me, I turned down the offer.

I wanted to experience school life, attending lectures with friends, co-living and the rest of them. I also wanted to experience living away from home. But as it is said that life doesn't always go as planned, I encountered school admission struggles common to University aspirants ( like JAMB 'jamming' me), and I then decided to try distance learning.

To my surprise, I'm getting used to the school and kind of prefer it over conventional schools due to the work-school balance and the fact that we don't go on strikes.

Although new to the hive platform, I have always heard about it from a friend on my Whatsapp contact list. He, @starstrings01 posted about the articles he wrote on Hive along with videos of the guitar-playing sessions he did.

After he introduced me to the website, he invited me to a program called Hive Bootcamp for Hive newbies which will help them to fully optimize the potential of the Hive platform.

He runs the program with some other people like @monioluwa and @olujay.

I benefitted a lot from the program as it helped me to manoeuvre unfamiliar grounds. I was able to open up an account, navigate some areas of the platform and also write this introductory post.

Like Oprah Winfrey once said, " Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more...," I cannot end this write-up without showing appreciation to the individuals that have helped me in the beginning part of my journey on Hive. I'm also open to inputs from fellow community members that will add value to my life. As I take this first step with you all, I hope to take a thousand more.

You are welcome to hive my dear @michelle-aby. Wow, to know much about you here๐Ÿ‘

I love the language a lot that I've planned out how my future husband is going to be of mixed nationalities, Spanish and Korean, then probably raised in any British country so that he has the British tongue, and then our kids will also have both Spanish and Korean names (please don't make fun of me๐Ÿ™ƒ).

I couldn't help but laugh out loud at this statement ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Oh...I see, this is how much you love the languages ? Hehehehehe...may your wishes be granted sweetie ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜˜

You are a fashion designer, seems I would need to go back to learning this skill. Seeing your work just motivated me to grab this skill where I left it...you are doing well sis.

Distance learning in the open university is cool, and glad you are adapting so far...I once applied for a post graduate study there but later didn't work out well for. I wish you well, in your life journey my dear

The people that brought you in hive are amazing people here. They have given you the solid foundation you need to strive here, just follow the guidelines and you won't ride on a rough road ๐Ÿ‘

Warm welcome ๐Ÿค—

Learn, meet people and grow gradually ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Hello @michelle-aby! Good to have you on Hive... But first, seems you wrote someone's else username as the author of this post. That part should only contain your username so people would not think it is authored by somebody else.

And after you are done making corrections to your post, take your time to visit the pinned post on my blog, and read through it. it would set down the path for your journey on Hive.

Hey @michelle-aby! This is @indayclara from the @ocd team. Congratulations and welcome to Hive!

I used to daydream as well what my husband would be like so I get you! ๐Ÿ˜‰ If you like to share more about your works in fashion, you can do it in NeedleWorkMonday. If traveling might be pushed back from your bucket list, you can still virtually do that by reading other people's travel blogs in Pinmapple!

Starting your journey here on Hive can be overwhelming so it's good to do your research and ask around. You can also read: How To Get A Great Start on the Hive Blockchain.

Some things to remember here on Hive:

  1. Make sure to share your future blogs in the appropriate Communities.
  2. If you are looking for tips and information as a Hive newbie, click here.
  3. Plagiarism and any form of abuse is considered a serious offense.

We wish you all the best in your Hive journey!
