A Unique Value Proposition Steem Could Offer to Video Content Creators

CommunitiesFeedback2.jpg

So this is just a brainstorm idea I had while being disgusted with corporate media and something that's going on in my circle of political attention. It's a little difficult to organize my thoughts on this into something cohesive but I'll try my best.

One of the great benefits I see in Communities is that you're no longer fighting for attention alone. Your community is your team and when people see someone else's content in a particular community that you participate in, they're more likely to see your content. They're also more likely to WANT to see your content because they should be looking for specific content in a particular community. This is really powerful and as far as I know, it doesn't exist on other social platforms.

So, I consume a lot of news from independent news sources like the ones in my little mock up above. All these different youtube channels collectively have millions of followers and are mostly on the same page in terms of their political ideology. Currently on youtube they regularly feature each other as guests on each others shows or reference each others clips. Basically, they work together to spread their ideas and message. The current structure of Youtube doesn't really require them to compete much, it works pretty well with cooperation.

Here we could take that a step further.

This is a bit of a continuation of my Viewing Preferences post but this idea is more of an experience that just a layout.

It's basically a custom user experience for video content producers. The featured video could be the top trending post, so within the community they compete for that. I was thinking it would be cool if it auto played without audio as well to almost mimic turning to a particular channel on a television. After the video is over, the next trending video plays automatically so that a user could come into this community and just let the videos play one after another without any need for clicks on their end. Could also add an autoplay boolean button to turn that off to keep the experience customizable.

Helping them where they're at vs full conversion

Here's how I see it. If you're a relatively large youtube channel, it's not realistic to ask them to "convert" to any Steem app right now unless they're already completely banned. We can't replicate the reach or money they earn there. Instead what might make sense is to offer them a powerful tool to concentrate their collective power in an online community that would let them work collaboratively in a way that isn't offered anywhere else.

Some of you may be asking, "What would stop them from doing that with the current interface?"

The experience.

The experience is everything. We can offer a totally unique(as far as I know) experience for these channels to work together. It would also be cool if they somehow made their way here and created a community, but I think it's a lot more appealing if you have something MUCH better than their current tolset to offer them.

These are all potential benefits without even mentioning the money. Of course if this creates an experience that's unique to Steem for creators and consumers and it onboards lots of people that want to support these channels then hopefully they learn enough about Steem to do it here, that's a plus all around.

I only used this content as an example because it was on my mind, but it of course applies to any content. Video games, politics, makeup, whatever. This idea of trending as a team is NEW. It's INNOVATIVE, and we NEED to capitalize on it by creating experiences that match this toolset in innovation and bringing powerful solutions to potential users.

Some issues I've thought up from the start

  • Can't control what people post, what if someone posts something that's not a video, is there a way to auto catch that. Could they be pushed to the bottom for a hybrid layout? Videos on top, posts on bottom? Could those be auto-muted? Not sure what the best solution for that is, but this is what I've got.

Would love to hear peoples thoughts on this. Tagging #peakreview and #steempeak because they asked.

I like this idea. It'd be a good way to bring in some more eyeballs on Steem.

@midlet, In my opinion Community means Togetherness and it drive towards the same goal. And in my opinion over the period of time Steem Communities will going to become powerful.

In my opinion no one will leave Centralised Platforms until as you said, They Are Banned. But in my opinion majority will be surprise after exploring Steem Ecosystem for sure.

Have a wonderful time ahead and stay blessed.

That’s a cool design proposal. I hope someone will fork the condenser and implement that idea.

For video content, i really wish that a front end could make it as a custom type post, and the input field for video url/upload with preferred video format is mandatory. When the video is too big, it will be compressed, etc.

I haven’t look at communities, is it possible to do curation there? If so, then a community could work on their curation to picked the best post to featured on daily basis. I think it’s only natural that people will compete to be featured (even without rewards).

Yes, it's all a fully functional upgrade to Condenser, I've been using it exclusively for a while now. You should check it out.

Would be great to see experimentation like this 👍
