The Wrong Advice
The Three best of friends, Michael, David and Daniel, the three of us attended the same secondary school and we cared for each other. But is true when they say Home and environment define the kind of character a child will portray. Michael which happens to be me and David, we both lived in the same street and grew up together. My dad and David's dad were lovers of sports, so they engaged themselves every Saturday to play sports and taking Me and David along, which brought us closer.

Daniel was from a broken home, a divorced home, his Dad left and Daniel's mom married to another man. Daniel was his dad's only child and he has a stepsister named Trisha. Trisha is 6 years below Daniel, Daniel is 14. Daniel and I are the same age while David was a year older than us.
Daniel had always had difficulty at home with his stepfather. Both of them find it hard to understand each other, even though the stepfather never acted badly to him but Daniel didn’t like him because he missed his father and he feels no one can be like his father, and care for him like his father
Daniel step stepfather loves Trisha because she’s his only daughter which makes him act more caring and supportive of Trisha than Daniel. Daniel was very jealous of this.
Daniel will often come to school to tell us how his stepdad doesn’t care about us and how his stepdad treats him.
Daniel; My stepdad, does not always have my time, he favors my sis more than me
Michael; How are you sure about this, you know he works from morning till night, maybe he’s tired.
Daniel; When he comes back from work, he buys things but doesn’t buy mine or most times when he gives my little sister goodies he gives me nothing or just a pinch of it
David; He doesn’t like you truly, report to your mom, have you told her about this
Michael; I don’t see any reason for you to do this, she’s your younger sister and she needs to be favored more
David; what kind of stupid excuses are you giving? (Turns to me) Michael, even though he did not give birth to him, that shouldn’t stop him from giving him comfort and happiness and also buying his goodies and not just for his daughter
Daniel; Am not happy with this, and if I tell my mom she will always support him because she thinks he’s already right
Mr. Wale, Daniel's uncle was a caring man but growing up in an orphanage home made him, not to understand the characteristics and qualities a father should portray, Mrs Shola understands him and tries to explain to her child Daniel, but he wouldn’t believe because he feels he doesn’t care.
I have always been a good friend to Daniel, I often advise him on how he should portray himself at home with his father and everything doesn’t seem the way he thinks it is, but David has been feeding Daniel with lots of irrelevant inventory that shouldn’t happen. David's Dad and Mom were two always having arguments but they aren’t divorced. David understands little or Nothing about fathers because his father was always on business trips.

So A day came when David gave Daniel a piece of foul advice during school launch time, this experience we had is an unforgettable experience.
David; (turns to Daniel) I will suggest you talk to your stepfather and tell your mom he is Maltreating you.
Michael; Do not ever try that, I know Mr wale can’t do such a thing why lie to him like this because you hate him, What kind of friend are you to give this Kind of Advice? Daniel doesn’t listen to him
David; At least he won’t be seeing him again
Daniel; (thinks deeply) I can’t do this because my mom loves him
David; without him, you will survive
Daniel; you have a point but! But!
David; But what?
Daniel; (silence)
Michael; why teach Daniel this sort of thing? He should challenge his stepdad, what kind of friend are you?
Daniel after hearing this advice from David thought about it and then decided to give it a try.
It was time for family dinner and Daniel had rehearsed all the words he wanted to use
Mr wale calls Daniel to the table to come eat, but Daniel refuses he then starts ranting and complaining to his mom with lies about how Mr. Wale treats him in front of Mr Wale, little did Daniel know that this is going to cause a serious argument and misunderstanding between Mrs Shola and Mr Wale. All this was caused by David’s advice to Daniel.
Mrs Shola; you know I love you both my children (hugs Trisha and Daniel together)
Mrs Shola loves both her children but wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to them. Daniel's lies caused all this anger, which he triggered through his imagination on what to tell her to scatter home.
Later that night after Mr. Wale and Mrs Shola have had a long argument, they later understood the fault. Mr wale calls Daniel
Mr Wale; (sobers) what have I done to you that a father hasn’t done
Daniel looks unease as he knows he has caused a burden to him
Mr wale; I pay your tuition fees, I try my best to be your father even though I am not, I take care of you and Trisha the same way and you think am not a good father. What have I done that you made my heart burdened like this, is it because you think I favor Trisha more than you, Never !!! , Trisha is your younger sister and she needs to be pet like a younger sister, you senior her with 6 years. I have been too busy with work, I promise I will always make it up to you (Looks at Daniel face with smile )
Daniel feeling Guilty immediately knelt and apologized, asking for forgiveness, telling them that he had always had this burden in his heart about Mr wale favoring his sister more than he and his friends told him to act this way.
Immediately Mrs Shola heard this She called the school management that night, then David and Daniel were punished to clean the library for two months.
Daniel; You both caused this, you know
Michael; you know I warned you about this, but you thought you smarter.
David; I am sorry I almost broke your home
Daniel; Thank God it didn’t break.

You did a good job of outlining the difficulty Daniel faced. You show sensitivity and understanding of the complex emotions a stepson might have. He has lost his father. He has a stepsister. His stepfather works long hours.
You explain well why David would give bad advice. He is confused also. He has learned from his home that a father is not a good thing. Your story offers characters that struggle but in the end are reasonable.
You do have some difficulty with language. It might help you do use Grammarly to go over your work after you have edited it yourself. Still, even with the language difficulty, this story has value.
Thank you for sharing this with us, @mikechrist.
Thank You TheInkwell I will try my best to improve on my language difficulty, by reading verified members story and understanding their use of words and languages 😊
Daniel didn't act wisely, he shouldn't have lied even if he needed to report to his mom. He could have calmly talked to the father to know why he is treating him that way and the man would have understood his point and things wouldn't go that way. Though, the home didn't turn to something else because of David's advise to him.
Thank you "smiles", for reading my story, you know we were all kids and growing up, this was what Mr Wale understood about everything
That kind jealousy exists among siblings. Daniel felt somehow inconvenient because he and Trisha weren't of the same father. It creates a little gap and unjustifiable assumptions. I can see from the end of the story that Wale is good to all of them.
Thank You for reading my post. Mr Wale is really a good man, I know of some other fathers who would have done worst
A beautiful story, with lots of lessons. We must be careful of our actions.
What a lovely story. Friends most times are hard to find perfect ones, though no one is perfect
