The best country visited so far, has been Spain

I have been there last year with Mary (@healthymary) for a 20 days roadtrip by car. We decided to go there as it was reachable by car and the seaside was supposed to be great.
We made the first day of travelling towards Tarragona, a historical city close to Barcelona. We left Verona (Italy) at 5am, reaching Tarragona at 7pm. I drove all the way and it was quite relaxing and coffee in French cafeteria along the motorway were great. Much better than Italian!

Of course, the typical Sangria (also named Calimocho) could not miss! It was tasty, cheap and fresh!

I loved Spain as it’s a very relaxing place, very welcoming and with warm people.
Food was so amazing! We tasted Paella, different types of fish and many typical dishes. Here you can find some.

In total we have been to Terragona, Cartagena, Almeria, Malaga, Alicante, Murcia, Valencia and some other intermediate steps on the road.
Architecture and history were great things as well and here are some pictures I took here and there.

In general, what I really loved in Spain is that aside the most touristic places, the country and the people are very calm, relaxed and welcoming. Many of them could not really speak English well, so I spoke the small Spanish I learnt to speak and in the end we could understand each other all the time.
This seems quite normal BUT in other countries I have been, people were not so patient with tourists that could not express very well.
Another thing is that life there, avoiding the most touristic place, is cheaper even than Italy, meaning and we tried a lot of local specialties, mainly on food as almost all the monuments, churches and relevant monuments were free-entry, something that in Italy is quite different.
We could visit the Holy Graal in Valencia as well as some ancient fortresses in Almeria and castles in Malaga.

We went there also in the perspective to look around to go there starting living there. At the moment we did not feel such traction to move, but we are still looking forward to evaluate place to replace to. And we will keep looking for but for now, the best place that we have been to has definitely been Spain!

This is a really nice overview of Spain, a location I would love to visit. I have heard so much about it from friends and look forward to travelling there myself one day. My guy and I are currently talking about possible locations to visit and Spain was mentioned. It's high up on the list.

Spain was a location on top of our list as well. We traveled about 6000 kilometers in 20 days but it was definitely worth it! We made all the Southern part of Spain and a couple of friends of mine are already following the lead as they are going there in August.

Well, English is not such spoken in Spain (if compared to Norther Europe countries) but they are very patient so with some gesture-language (where us Italian are champions) and some creativity there would not be big problems.
This made me giggle, the Italians are champions at hand talking. 😊

Sangría and calimocho are different drinks, one is wine with pieces of fruit, the one you were drinking, and the other (calimocho or kalimotxo in basque) is wine with cola mate. 😅

When I was in Erasmus, a Spanish (from basque area) guy called Sangria --> Calimocho like they were the same thing. So when us Italian/Germans/and the rest of the world were speaking of Sangria he was always speaking of Calimocho. That's where this false info came.
