The Circus is in Town - Unleash Your Inner Child

A visit to a circus is a truly unforgettable experience that can delight and excite people of all ages. The vibrant colours, dazzling lights and thrilling performances will leave spectators awestruck. So sit back, relax and get ready to be entertained as we take a trip to the circus!

Circus is what real life should be like. It's sincerity, feeling, emotions. All real. There are no lies in circus. There are artists working together to give a smile. It's a world where people help one another. It's the only show where a family, everyone from children to their grandmothers, can sit together and all be entertained by the same thing (Princess Stephanie of Monaco).

A few posts back (link here) I already shared some photos from the circus that, in my opinion, stood out a little more than the rest. However, today I'd like to tell you about the whole circus adventure I had. The circus came to my neighbouring town, Gorizia, which is located in eastern Italy, right on the border with Slovenia, where I live. My son came home from school all excited, with the news that there was a circus in Gorizia. I don't remember the last time I went to the circus, probably when I was his age and I asked my parents to take me to see the show. My wife was immediately in favour, but I was a bit hesitant whether to go with them or stay at home. In the end, I just went to the show and I have to admit that it was wonderful.

The Circus di Wien (Vienna Circus) was in Gorizia from 15 April to the first of May. By the name I thought it would be an Austrian circus, but performers were fluent in Italian, so I'm not sure about its origins.

At the beginning of the show, the circus performers first introduced themselves and then the fun began.

Some excellent performances followed. First up was the juggler, who showed off his amazing skills with balls, rings, skittles and torches.

Next up were two gymnasts who showed us how flexible the human body can be. Truly amazing!

This was followed by a performance by a hula hoop artist. We all tried spinning the hoop as children, but this woman has made a profession out of this skill. She's doing really well!

Then came the smell of petrol. Suddenly, a metal structure, a kind of scale, grew in the middle of the stage, with a motorcyclist strapped to one side and circus performers on the other, performing antics together. This performance was the least captivating of all in my opinion.

It's the time of the animals. First, the tigers took the stage, including a white tiger. Then came the camel, the dromedary, lamas, horses and ponies. I'm not really a fan of animals living in captivity, but it's always been part of the culture in circus.

The next on the agenda was a performer dressed as an angel. He gave an outstanding performance, showing his strength, agility and courage high in the air. The performer received great applause, especially from the female part of the audience.

The last to perform was the clown, who accompanied us throughout the show and put us in a good mood with his antics and humour. But this time in a different light, more serious. He showed us that he is not only good at sketches, but that he is a real master at walking a tightrope and catching his balance on a ladder.

At the end, all the artists came back on stage, we applauded them and they applauded us back, because we were a wonderful audience, at least that's what they told us 😁

At the time of our visit, the circus had won a prestigious award. For the first time in history, UNESCO has awarded a certificate to a circus for its achievements in this rare art. What an honourable mention, they really deserve it!

I have to admit that it was a really interesting experience to visit the circus again after many years! My family and I really enjoyed the whole show, two hours passed in a flash. We all can't wait for the circus to come back to our area, we will definitely visit it again!

It's sad that a circus of such a progressive city like Vienna is still using animals. There are plenty of circuses worldwide that ditched this horrible practice and prosper perfectly. I have seen Cirque de Soleil (Canada) and Salto Natale (Switzerland) many times, and it's a much better experience if there are no animals abused.

I totally agree with you about the animals. I was sure I had heard somewhere that there was already a ban on animals performing, so I was surprised to see them performing.

That's some fantastic photos and looks like a great show, no wonder they got an award. It certainly looks like there's a lot more variety than the circus I went to last week, we didn't have any animals.

The show was really very varied, from the classic clown sketches, acrobats, jugglers to the animal performances. I went to the show with no particular expectations, but I have to say I was quite surprised, in a positive way. In my opinion, the show would certainly have been a success without the animals, because I feel that a lot of people had concerns about that. Thanks for dropping by!
