I could live in Brooklyn

I could have screamed hallelujah when I opened my hotel room and saw a designated workstation. It was aesthetically pleasing, functional, creative, and comfortable. The hotel designer of the new Brooklyn Hotel in Leicester City, Uk did an astounding job by applying an angular layout which divided the sleeping area from the work area, something that is most times just an afterthought, or a space-filler.

10.jpg

This room design was as clever as a house design with your garage next to the kitchen so that you can unpack your groceries straight from the car to your refrigerator or storage cupboards.

As a former hotelier, I have a keen eye for details and the serviceability of the items placed in rooms. Therefore, I appreciate a utilitarian design, with effective use of minimal space, and with cost-effective material that requires little maintenance. The designer has these concepts down pat.

8.jpg

The plan as seen in this photo was well thought out, from the direction of the door swing to having a solid structure for the closet on the supporting wall. with a sliding door. Therefore, if the guest is standing by the closet, there's ample space for the room door to be opened without risk of injury or jamming of two doors being opened at once.

Untitled design-66.jpg

The shelving unit which features a coffee station, mini-fridge, and safe was user-friendly, and logical, which brought orderliness to the room. Imagine that you were standing by the coffee station. See, on the left, there's free space for your feet so you can stand comfortably, and on the right, there is space next to the tray for guests to safely make beverages, or prepare a quick snack.
Right there at the back of the display are electrical outlets so you don't have to remove the kettle from the counter to go and plug it in at another section of the room. This is also important in terms of avoiding accidents of spillage or being burnt by the hot kettle.

14.jpg

So, if I needed a coffee or tea while working from the desk, it would be a quick and easy spin to put the kettle on and have somewhere to place my cup.

Untitled design-67.jpg

On the opposite side of the door upon entering, is the bathroom, a critical place which determines the condition of the entire room.
That's because the moisture from the wet room seeps out to the entire room and causes damage if there's not good ventilation.

The space was perfect and ideally laid out with little functional details. Such as this open circle in the glass door of the shower.

6.jpg

This gap is an escape for steam and it is handy in case you need to reach for an item while showering.

IMG_20230808_112726_296.jpg

Have you ever checked into a hotel with badly used space, where there's a tiny face basin without any shelving or counter? This one had more than enough around the perimeter of the bathroom, which was practical and convenient.

4.jpg

The overhead shower and movable hand-held showers were both powerful and tactfully positioned to not flood the area if the shower door was open.

Untitled design-69.jpg

Just little details such as lighting, plugs, mirrors, handlebar, built-in shelf, and radiator gives the look and feel a hospitable vibe. These simple added details are all durable, which would definitely reduce maintenance and cost in the long run.

The layout and calculated placement of amenities made the room homely and comfortable, and it was a pleasure to work from the room.

Untitled design-68.jpg

Sweet dreams came true in Brooklyn.

2.jpg

The designer's ability to think out-of-the-box with an angular division of the rooms created an illusion of space, compared to what the room would look like if the bed and furnishing were boxed against the wall.
3.jpg

Everything was serviceable, and I was pleased to have sufficient plug sockets, USB charge points, and switches conveniently installed.

IMG_20230808_113138_635.jpg

The creativity of the layout gave the designer more room to play with, and this small multifunctional table with chair meant that if a couple was staying they would both have adequate working or seating.

Untitled design-70.jpg

Overall, the furnishing and fixtures were simple and elegant; Nothing gaudy or too one-off that might be difficult to replace.

6.jpg

In terms of functionality, comfort, aesthetics, and keeping with the "Brooklyn" theme, the designer did an amazing job in making the rooms elegant, homely, easy to maintain, and most important, unpretentious. The colour scheme added elegance, and the fixtures were made of durable materials that will not show signs of wear and tear easily.

"It was home-like that I could live in Brooklyn."

All images were taken by me during my stay at the Hotel Brooklyn, Leicester August 2023.

It's like a small house to me.

Exactly!!! I didn't want to leave. I had a socket at every designated area. The rest of the hotel's design was amazing too, but I didn't take photos though.
Everything was well thought out with little quirks everywhere.
The food and staff were amazing too, and it's a central location. 🙌

Looks like a well thought out design. Good use of the small space. I've never seen that layout in a hotel before - I mean the bed on an angle with the desk behind. Neat idea. I often like the feeling that hotels give. I've stayed in many that I felt I could live in. Though there have been many that I couldn't as well. Lol

Nice review. 👍

Thank you 😊

I've never seen that layout in a hotel before - I mean the bed on an angle with the desk behind.

Me neither. It gave it that wow effect.
Everything was perfect: the right height of the chair for the table, the right brightness of lighting, proper ventilation, and very importantly, when I closed the drapes and turned off all the lights, the room was pitch black. I was so happy that I was dancing in the dark. Normally, I travel with black tape to cover blue lights (from air-con, TV, or anything) in hotel rooms.
Those little things ruin my sleep. 🙃

I don't mind some light coming in from outside if it's not too harsh, but not electronic light. Those button lights bug me as well.

Haha! So, I'm not alone 😆

I don't mind some light coming in from outside if it's not too harsh

I want no light. It's impossible for me to sleep without an eye mask, earplugs, and recently socks. I cannot fall asleep with cold feet 🤣
I'm getting more extreme by the night. I don't know what will be next. 🤔

Wow that is truly a design hotel with lotsof thought about using space efficiently and effectively. Seems like they thought about everything. It is ingenious to plact the bed at an angle and attacking the office area to the back of the bed - thus giving it a separate and 2 rooms feeling. All the small details will ceratinly ensure comfort and accessible. I am sure you are enjoying your start at Brklyn.

Yeah, it was amazingly clever. I was like OMG, this makes so much sense. It was perfect for someone like me who needs my space because it felt like 2 separate rooms indeed. I was in my office and hubby was in the bedroom and sometimes he used the small table 😆

I love surprises like that. It's one of the few hotels I've stayed at where they got everything right. Yes, Brooklyn felt like home:)))

Oh, I've not had a lot of terrible hotel experiences. Although I checked into one sometime last year and it left me scarred and almost traumatized to say the least. Checking into a nice hotel room is a real blessing I should say. Sure you had amazing dreams there.

I'm sceptical about hotels and whenever I place the key in the slot, I'm always waiting to see what surprise awaits.
It's either a good feeling right away or "Good Lord, I'll have to try to get comfortable in this."
This time a big grin was on my face 😁
The beds and pillows were super comfy too, so yes, sweet dreams 😊

Very fancy! I love the work area, very compact, and I think it's smart psychologically to separate from the sleeping area. Different mental compartments.

A coffee station is a must for me, even if only for a quick morning cuppa.

Oh so that's what the little hole in the shower is for. Always wondered xD looks like you had a good stay.

💯% I was like OMG this is so clever. My girlfriend in Jamaica is half Canadian, it's the kind of design she would have come up with. She has an unorthodox way of doing her room designs that make you just wanna stay in the room all day.

It was a lovely stay and the room must have had soundproof insulation because I could not hear a thing from outside or along the corridors when the housekeepers were cleaning, and the entire block was full. These things are important to me.
We'd definitely go back:)))

It's the shelving unit that really got me. I love them and inspired me to create a similar one for my tiny room. That shelves is space spacing and very creative too.

Yeah, it made me think just how cheap it could be to make a basic room seem luxurious. It gave me so many ideas and I wish that I was still renovating rooms

inspired me to create a similar one for my tiny room

I'm glad it did. It's important to make small spaces work well 😁

It's amazing how you payso much attention to all the details! That hole in the shower to let steam out, doesn't the water splash out when you shower?

Hehe! No, it's strategically placed, so the water can't splash from there 😆

It's a lovely hotel and the food has a Japanese influence 😋

It's a beautiful room and I love that they thought of everything, especially the client's community, nowadays it's important to have a space to work. It looks quite cozy and I like the colors of the room.

They are nice details to want to be in the room quietly and I like that shower door and also the closet. The combination of aesthetics with functionality is what you always have to take care of to create the perfect space. Greetings!

Definitely the architect thought of all the details to provide the tourist a comfortable space where in addition to rest can work without interruptions, I liked the decor of the room and every detail of the bathroom in which make the most of the space.

Greetings!

I should probably praise the hotel first, or the designer, but instead, I will praise your organization of ideas and your ability to describe the space and its aesthetics, and the functionality of everything. Wow!

We'll, no doubt you were an hotelier; you know what you're talking about...

I loved this hotel room. My favorite part was the workstation and my favorite feature, the angular division. I wonder how much they charge per night 🤔

Thank you! Yes, I spend many years doing hotel management, and a keen responsibility was doing site inspections and checking rooms for maintenance and quality. My engineering team were always nervous to read my reports and findings 😆

The hotel advertises prices for about £70 p/n p/room however, it's always worth using travel websites like Booking.com which usually has deals and you also accumulate points that could give you good discounts.
I've never been so pleased with a hotel stay in a long time,🙌 so I would definitely return;)✨
