Hello #Hivers

In light of #InternationalDayofRuralWomen, #GlobalHandwashingDay, and #WorldStudentDay, I've added a few photos from my street photography of everyday life in my rural village of Moalboal and more. (According to Wikipedia:)

Moalboal

Municipality in Cebu
Moalboal, officially the Municipality of Moalboal, is a 4th class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 31,130 people. Extending as a peninsula on the south-western tip of Cebu, Moalboal is bordered to the west by the Tañon Strait. Wikipedia*

'The normality of washing clothes by hand came as a shock to my system, approximately 7 years ago.'

Across rural villages in the Philippines, everyday, women congregate by the roadside, their backyards or anywhere shady, to hand-wash clothes, as they "tsismis":) (gossip) with huge guffaws.
(*** For the hand-washing photos, I decided to portray the image myself, as not everyone is keen for photography doing these chores***)

I'll never forget my neighbour telling me the importance of the stool for comfort when I just arrived #Philippines 😊

Rural Women

My village Moalboal is surrounded by water, so during low tide, it's normal for the women to go searching for sea urchins, sometimes she'll have a small child or children with her, or her dogs tend to tag along and have little frolics in the sea.

Students

Uniforms are prevalent in the Philippines for public schools, private schools and even as high as university level.
Most girls are required to wear long tunics or skirts and boys wear khaki or dark trousers - long for older boys, and kids sometimes wear knee-length shorts.

#ItsMoreFunInThePhilippines :)

I hope you like the little glimpses of what typical days look like in my village... these photos were taken pre-covid times, hence the absence of masks....on that note, #GlobalHandwashingDay might have more emphasis on washing of hands as hygiene is still high priority in these times and always.

Thank you for your time!

So long till my next blog:)

I had no idea there is a global handwashing day. I experienced handwashing clothes when I was young. One of the things I had to learn growing up even though there was a semi-automatic washing machine. It was a survival skill (sort of) passed down through generations. So yes, a stool is ever-present in Philippine households. We actually have some at home 😄

🤣 I remember doing hand washing as a girl too. We had standing double wash tubs at the back of our house. One tub would be with soap and the other for rinsing. I guess some women would sit in a similar fashion on maybe huge rocks or by the river in Jamaica.
Hand washing of large items like blankets or duvet covers is scary, my former house helper pitied me and showed me how to wring the water out by placing it over the shoulder and working it down like a long tail. 🤣

Oh yes, the large garments are tough, just looking at them made me want to cry. 😅 The standing washtubs are more practical for the back though, because sitting on the stool for a long time could get painful. Cool captures 😀

This is fun to see, the images of people were so amazing. That little boy tho, hahaha Anyway same in our place that during low tide we went to the sea and searched sea urchins to eat. I really love street photography because it tells many stories just by looking at the people faces and reactions.
