A Simple Day by the Seaside (with a video)

I had started to believe that summer was a myth, and then out of nowhere came a bright sunny day. It was so glorious, that I went for a 10-minute train ride to the neighbouring seaside town to bask in the sunshine.
But why not, heh?

It's amazing the speed at which sunshine triggers happy hormones, and I was just antsy to get outdoors. I mean, this has been the longest spell of bad weather that we've had in the Uk, which makes it frightening to think that it's already mid-August.
Along the journey, I snapped some shorts and joined them together in this video so you can feel the groove.
The days flow and I don't know if it's because I'm getting older, but man the days seem so much shorter, still it keeps me on my toes to do things and not procrastinate.

Still, as an islander, I find trips to seaside towns a bit lacklustre, but I love to sit by the water and let the world go by in a stress-free manner.

I also picked Dawlish because there would be no need for me to traipse around in the heat since the train station is located right by the sea. So, exit, and I was right on the water.

Schools are still out, so trains were crowded, with much traffic on the platforms. Along the coast, I could already see from the train that the seafront was understandably crowded, as everyone took advantage of the rare sunny day.

People of all ages frolicked on the shore, while I sat on the banking people-watching and enjoying ice cream.

When I first came to live in the UK, I'd always tell my husband that England would be perfect if it was a tropical country, but over time, I've come to appreciate the seasons.

Still, I love to see how zealous everyone is to soak up some sunshine because it's so important to get adequate Vitamin D for our bodies and our well-being.

It's one vitamin that's easy to overlook, so many of us might have a deficiency, something that's expected considering the lack of sunshine, especially this year.

The world's a brighter place when there are blue skies.

I spent a little time by the brook where there were a few of the black swans, a popular highlight of the town. However, it was the ice cream outlets that got everyone's attention. I've never seen so many adults queuing for ice cream, and I made several trips back for the same flavour every time — rum and raisin.

Generally, I think it's important to balance our days with time spent outdoors, and it's also important to take some leisure time for a mental recharge. It doesn't have to be for extravagant outings, as just sitting by the sea or any body of water is a great way to help us to find our centre and feel grounded.

It was a fantastic day out, and even though I would have enjoyed meditating by the sea, it was not the ideal day. So I ended my day stretching in the woods, as I rehydrated and felt renewed.

Happy Friday Peeps!
Thanks for stopping by:)

And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
I also believe that you don't need to go for extravagant outings to spend time outdoors. Just walking, observing, seeing the world around you, it's enough to make anyone feel renewed, coupled with a wonderful weather.
Rum and raisin. Sounds interesting. Is it really nice?
Oh, you've never had rum and raisin ice cream? It's one of the most popular ice cream flavours in Jamaica and it has always been my favourite, and second is pistachio 😋
Yes, it is delicious, especially when it has a strong rum-rich flavour. I will try different flavours sometimes, but it's such a treat to have it that there could be 2 dozen voices and I always pick that one 😁
I think simplicity is key to everything, and as you say, just observing the things around you brings so much joy:)))
Happy Friday 👋🏻😊
So wonderful to see you enjoy the sun.
Yes… summer hasn’t really been yet. The same in Ireland.
I am soooo not complaining about the grey and rain as after 8 year of southern Spain, I needed a break from the sun.
Wonderful captures, thanks for sharing.
Enjoy your day ☀️🌺
I get that!😁
I bet you will enjoy winter too. When I returned from the Philippines after living there for 7 years, autumn and winter was a welcoming change.
I'm pleased that you enjoyed the photos 😊😍
Have a lovely day too 💐
Oh I do… we arrived in Scotland in January and got snowed in the first week.
LOVED it 😎 I prefer seasons, the changes and all that comes with them.
Sounds so similar.
Thanks a lot. 👋🏻😊
🤗😊
Uu this place is quite gorgeous! I'm glad it wasn't too crowded (the beach looks just perfect for sitting and listening to the waves). <3 The river(?) also looks nice. It sounds like you had a lovely day!
Yes, I'm lucky to be so close to the sea, and I particularly like Dawlish for the swans and just the unique layout of the train by the sea, and it's a pretty bay. It's not a river, they call it a brook, so it's a small stream right in the centre of the town with black swans. I swear it's like a fairytale town, where everyone always seems so relaxed just watching the swans, having ice cream, and meandering through the promenade.
It was a lovely day, and I'm happy that I brought my water bottle because I kind of overdid it in the sun:)
Hello dear friend @millycf1976 good day
It's good that the bad weather finally passed and you have had the opportunity to see the bright sun in your city
Beautiful video, you have shown really beautiful views, the city you visited is charming, its streets, its coast and its beach
Beautiful photographs, I appreciate that you have shared this beautiful experience
enjoy the weekend
Hello @jlufer
The sun only made a 24-hour appearance and it's gone back to being grey and rainy, so I'm super happy that I dropped everything and went out for the day.
Yes, it's a charming town and a relaxing place to be. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time by the sea.
Thanks for stopping by, have a lovely Friday:)))
What a pity that the gray days and the rains have returned, I hope the sun returns soon and you can go for a walk in the woods
Yeah, fingers crossed. I've not seen this in a long time. It makes me feel bad for people who live in places where they seldom see the sun.
I would not cope living in such extremes 😏
It's true, that would be catastrophic to live in a place without receiving the energy and light from the sun, I don't know what I would do in a place like that. That's why I love sunny days in contact with nature
Absolutely! It's sad, but it's understandable why suicide and depression are prevalent in those places. Despite other drawbacks, it makes me feel lucky for where I was born.
By our standards, that beach is practically deserted... I envy you... Our recent trip to the beach was a nightmare because there were too many people... the very loud sort of people.
On the other hand, I still think England would be a wonderful country with a better climate. It's sad you had such a lousy summer. We've had a couple of weeks with pleasant temperatures, but we're back to very hot days, which isn't fun either.
The ice cream sounds pretty cool, too. :)
Hehe! You are right! I've seen photos of crowded beaches that make me twitch with discomfort. There was ample face everywhere and thankfully everyone was quiet and respectful of each other's space. There were a few kids being kids lifting some heavy rocks just to drop them right down, but even they were well-behaved.
These are the little things that I appreciate and compare the pros and cons of being on the beach in Jamaica.
Crystal clear blue powdery white sand with music and constant harassment vs pebbled beach, cold water, relaxation and quiet time. Sadly, I pick the latter. At least I felt safe.
Ice cream was the perfect treat, indeed:)))
When the sun comes out after a long spell of rain and gloom it can be a real game changer to your mood and general well being. Glad to hear that you got out to enjoy it. Black swans again - cool! Looks like a nice spot. People watching with an ice cream - that's my jam 😋 👌
Thank you!
Yes, being in the sun made me feel like a new me 😁😊
