Cryptos with real life use case? So, what are you holding guys?

There's been so much talking whether investing in any type of cryptocurrency is any different than a game for profits / gamble, such as stocks or options...or...you name it.

It can't just be me who has failed miserably trying to convince friends, family members, colleagues that it would be wise to invest some of their spare money in crypto.

But not any crypto.

You see there are something like 5300+ crypto projects out there according to Coinmarketcap / Coingecko and let's be honest. A shit ton of them are scams...sad but 100% true.

So, while I was trying to explain to them , the reasons why they should invest in cryptocurrencies rather than holding their money in a bank where it's supposed to be safe...

Safe? Read this article first before you jump in conclusions, and let me know how "safe" you think it is to trust your savings, your hard earned money to these institutions.

...I've found my self in a position where I couldn't provide an answer about the real life use cases those projects have...except for a handful of them.

Wow...just a handful of them out of the 5K+ eh? Well, there are possible explanations. Either I have no clue about many promising projects with real life use case, or....they are indeed just a handful of them.

Which brings us to the next question: "If only a few of these projects have real use case, how can one prove wrong a "potential crypto candidate's" allegations that value is being created out of thin air? Pfff...

For me it's impossible to do so. I mean I am clearly doing something wrong when I spew words such as blockchain or blocks or inflation. They have that stupid look on their faces...as if I am trying to deceive them or as if they had just seen an alien...

Unless someone is an "insider" there is absolutely no way to be persuaded...if however you have a secret sauce...lemme know in the comments. (I ain't talking only about HIVE here...)

So back to crypto where at least from where I stand do have real life use case.

Society has come to a point where there's almost zero privacy for individuals. Nada. With a click of a button you have almost all necessary information about one's life. Social media platforms and big corporations are stalking us. (Facebook - Google)

Our very own smartphones are the biggest "rats" and even provide our exact location and actions at any given time. But what does that have to do with crypto, you may wonder? It does.

A) People eventually will be more interested in their privacy . That's the reason private coins have been created after all. Absolute privacy...untraceable transactions. Every coin that falls into that group has a bright future if you ask me. And the king of them all? Monero of course (XMR). I am a huge fan of this coin...and yes, this isn't a financial advice bla bla bla.

B) HIVE - STEEM. You think I am exaggerating? Let aside the fact that one can contribute and earn rewards either by blogging / developing / vlogging and many other ways , but have you really checked the curation rewards one can earn when they have a significant HIVE / STEEM stake? And I ain't talking about millions of SP...but anyone holding 150K HP or more can already make a living through curation rewards in some places of the world. Note that HIVE and STEEM are sitting at 11 and 15 cents respectively. What happens when they hit 1$? Probably one could make a living anywhere in the world...regardless where they might live. And the best part? Have your cake and eat it too. Who needs Steem when there's Hive around eh? Just saying...

C) That should be Ethereum and NOT Bitcoin. You see, not only ETH is the fuel required to transact with the network, but because a ton of apps have already been built on top of ETH blockchain and that number is only going to go up the following years especially when ETH2 launch, people will always need that "fuel".

On the other hand, someone could say "hey...what about BTC dude?" Well BTC is overrated if you ask me. Not only because I literally see no real life use case by holding it but also because of its "ancient technology"...and don't tell me about Lighting Network and those bullshit...It is definitely a valuable asset but only because "we" have added value to it.

That's just me tho...

So...what are you holding fellas? Lemme know in the comment section below.

Have a good one. Cheers.

Great article! With over 5000 cryptos and tokens it is difficult to see the what they all bring to the world.

I have a very simple philosophy regarding which cryptos to keep and which ones to sell. I only keep the ones I need! This means that if I can't use them for anything useful, I simply don't need them. This is no guarantee for any price stability but I think it's a good meter to see whether the coin actually has a good use case.

These are projects and tokens that I like and keep:

  • Hive
  • Steem
  • BTC as a storage of value
  • LBC the coin of lbry.tv which is a real alternative to youtube
  • Tron to use the tron blockchain with all the dapps
  • ETH to use the Ether blockchain with all the dapps
  • Doge when I need to transfer coins its very cheap and fast and also because I run a Doge faucet

Best regards,
Achim

Interesting list. Although I'd stay away from Tron....or obvious reasons...

Also LBC is similar to Hive yet the fact that you can just drop links feels like one doesn't really spend time exclusively creating there...

Great question, will read your list a bit later when I have more time and might add my reasoning to what I'd hold/would like to hold in the near future but for now here's the list in order of cmc after hive:

hive + hdb
eth
bch
xlm
xmr
atom
bat
icx
enj
theta
nrg
sc
mana
stx

We do have the same preferences. I do hold mana bat and sc...along with LTC which is one of my favorite (dunno why)

The only reason I ain't holding bch is because I think it's a bit...controversial although fast like hell.

you really are an alt-coin enthusiast as I don't see btc. But, quite disappointing that you don't hold chainlink.

I would have had I bought it earlier but since this is also a "what I would buy once I can" list I don't see myself buying link any longer at these prices.

I just started on this journey so take it for what you will,
I have heard and read alot of good things about Dash.
Saw a video where a guy who is on Steem, don't know his user name, on the video he went by desertlynx, he lives on dash and hasnt had a bank acount for a few years doing that. I read an article by @shortsegments about Dash it can be transfered via SMS, thought that was cool, especially for low opportunity and no bank access people.
As far as use cases, that's what I am trying to focus my efforts on, to show people the benefits and potential.
Caught a CoinTelegraph talk today where they talked about E-payment and digital dollar, very interesting. Had a guy from Monarch wallets, he talked about how it can be used from the merchant and user sides, checked some reviews and the app looks really good. Lots of cool features
Also, kinda use case-ish, the panelists also mentioned Ternio blockcard, you can deposit several popular cryptos (with plans to add more with user input) they get staked as native stable coin, you can use it like a visa debit.
Similar to Crypto.com card but you can deposit many different cryptos.
Another use case story I caught was about how in developing countries with instable govts, there are blockchain solutions being developed for education and professional certifications.
The best use case is still to come, when those trillions they printed hits!

Whatever you do, Dont take investment advice from me!
I got BTC, ETH, Zcash, Dash, XLM, and MCO.
And oh yeah, Hive!
Thanks for all your efforts here
Peace

Thanks for the kind words bud. I just mentioned some big names and waited for reactions :)
Sure there are many good projects out there and Dash is def one of them...can't track them all unless you live on the Internet and have no life.

There are def tons of scams so...be careful.

Have a good one bud

HIVE....For obvious reasons.

BAT....I see HUGE use case for it with Brave and jut love the project.

PRE....Been dabbling in it, think it's fascinating, but there is barely any talk on social media about it which worries me.

LTC....Just for buying HIVE quickly lol

That's about all my bags...If I can use it, and earn it, I'd work on accumulating it!

great post though! Big topic!

LTC....Just for buying HIVE quickly lol

Now that's a solid reason to hold it. :)

Hey one doesn't necessarily have to hold bags full of crap but full of potential.

Thanks for stopping by mate.

They have that stupid look on their faces...as if I am trying to deceive them or as if they had just seen an alien...

Ny social life in a nutshell 👽

Tell me if you ever find out what the secret sauce is if you discover it though. :p

BTC - store of value
ETH - actual use cases (stable coins)
Hive - still waiting for some proper economy to grow that could create sustainable demand - in my opinion that could be:

  • blogging obviously - users may want to support their favorite authors, more stake in the platform
  • gaming - hive as the currency used by different games
  • ads - things like allowing authors to promote their content should be build in since day one
  • financing - lending (delegations also), stable coins etc.

Obviously, the more uses cases for the currency, they healthier the economy and the more valuable the token. I think we're slowly getting there :)

Ha! Look at all those points you mentioned there..

Hive's technology is def superior to 99.9% of all cryptos. Anything can be built on top of this chain. Can all that be built on top of BTC? Nah...Do you see that light at the end of the tunnel? That's the bright future

No 4 is it to trade with less fees or just because you believe it will shine? Definitely a centralized coin...

It's centralized but I do believe this is gonna rise in future when more and more people start using Binance.

Fair enough. Some people already made some serious money considering the fact that their entry point was at 60 cents. I know some of them

Great post! The thing that I find the hardest to wrap my head around is exactly that— real-world use case. Without the ability to utilize cryptocurrency as one would use fiat, mass adoption will always be just out of reach. It's really cool to see companies like Uphold and Ternio making it easier to move and use cryptocurrency in the "real" world, so we'll see how all that unfolds over the next 2-3 years.

And of course, we'll see what happens to crypto when we're on the other side of the economic catastrophe the pandemic has pushed us into.

Currently holding:

  • btc
  • eth
  • xlm
  • usdc (yes, yes, I know it's a stablecoin, so it maybe doesn't quite count here)
  • oxt
  • hive
  • steem
  • bat (because I can't get them out of Brave Rewards thanks to New York State bitlicense issues 😭)
  • pre

... and then some miscellaneous s***coins scattered about here and there

I'm a small fish in this whole cryptographic world. Not only because of the lack of capital, but also because I have to handle more information about the whole thing. But for now, I keep some btc, steem, and hives. This is my start.

Great article. I am going with:

Monero
ETH
Hive/Steem
Leo

By the way, you are invited to participate in my „Guess the DOW“ game that will start every Saturday. In this creasy times with negative oil prices, it might be fun to bet on the Friday End standing of the DOW Jones. I will also add the LEO earned with these Posts to the price that can be won by the comment that come closest to the reality. So curation and rehives are also very welcome. Greetings. This is @no-advice

BTC (more than half of all my combined crypto)
LTC
HIVE and HP, obviously
STEEM I'm getting ready to dump
ETH and a few ERC20 I basically wish I never bought.

Fairly puny amounts all around, I've never really had much money.

BTC has treated me pretty well as savings so far, especially since I don't trust the bank, so there's a use case.

"It [BTC] is definitely a valuable asset but only because "we" have added value to it."

Sure. Seems the same to me for any valuable asset, simple supply and demand.
