Back to Analog

There was a time when we used to have newspapers delivered to our houses every morning. An uncle used to ride a bicycle and he delivered newspapers almost for fifteen years to our doorsteps non-stop. Digitalization took it away, people slowly started to adopt digital media to digest real-time information. Only a few have the habit of reading actual newspapers nowadays.

I do still remember my uncle, he used to be skinny, and saw him the same for year after years. The sound of a bell from his cycle used to signal that he was here, he would take three or four newspapers according to the preferences for delivery and I would open the door to collect. If the people are not at home, he would throw it in via the hole beneath the door, lol. There used to be piles of newspapers in our houses. Those days are gone.

"ᵂᵒʳᵈˢ ᵃⁿᵈ ᵖⁱᶜˢ ᵃʳᵉ ᵐⁱⁿᵉ, ᵘⁿˡᵉˢˢ ᴵ ˢʰᵒᵘᵗᵒᵘᵗ ʷʰᵉʳᵉ ᵗʰᵉʸ ᶜᵃᵐᵉ ᶠʳᵒᵐ!"

Well, to be honest, nowadays the news media are getting biased as well. This is concerning, at least this is what I feel like. In this situation, I feel like The Daily Star’s contents are still good enough to read. English is our second language for us, and an English newspaper is beneficial in that aspect but only a handful of people read it, most of people prefer Bangla over anything.

Today I got them again, after years. One of the main reasons is to take a break from the electronics and consume the news through a paper, not from the electronic device. Yeah, even for an hour or two. Maybe I won't be able to continue this on a daily basis but I am planning to do this at least two times per week for the beginning. Also, the efficiency with English shall be improved and I do like the contents of these more than the local ones. They try to stay unbiased while adding the content also the quality is quite standard as I have mentioned already.

So when I was reading this newspaper today, it gave me a nostalgic feeling of growing up while seeing my father reading a newspaper every morning with a cup of tea. Paper that my father used to leave home while going for his work used to be my turn to read. I was only interested on the sports section nowadays. Interest has reached ZERO. I just read the headlines of the sports section today, lol.

What do you prefer or read nowadays? Paper or an online version?
