How I Separate Facts from Noise

News! In the past, we used to rely on a few sources, like television and newspapers that used to be delivered to our doors, quite solid and trusted places. Used to carry all kinds of information, maybe we would jump to our interesting pages first,t then the others. Now, with the boom of technology, it has become very available, with tons of sources all around, and we too can set what to consume and what not. The most trending one is social media with the advanced algorithms, and a haven of fake news amidst the real one.

If I were to list the types of information that are important to me would be the current tech world, especially related to security, crypto, and AI. Then there will be world economy, geopolitics, and my country's internal affairs at the top level, not like the tiny ones all around. Mostly, im in my twitter, which has the sources of my interest to deliver what im interested at and the rest of the work is done by the algorithm via bringing in the relevant stuff to me.

Now comes the rise of fake news. Especially in a third-world country like mine, where the spread of fake newses are deadly, as most of the consumers aren't that educated or have the technological knowledge to validate news that just pops up all around. The blessing of AI has made it even worse, as people are taking the help of AI to mix things. Why are they doing so? Tons of reasons.

"ᵂᵒʳᵈˢ ᵃⁿᵈ ᵖⁱᶜˢ ᵃʳᵉ ᵐⁱⁿᵉ, ᵘⁿˡᵉˢˢ ᴵ ˢʰᵒᵘᵗᵒᵘᵗ ʷʰᵉʳᵉ ᵗʰᵉʸ ᶜᵃᵐᵉ ᶠʳᵒᵐ!"

So for me, it's not just about fake news; I do stay away from adulterated, biased, and manipulative ones as much as possible. Yeah, I can sense fake news pretty easily by following a few principles and common sense. I always consume news from trusted sources, reputable ones. My sources are set in such a way that the same news will be coming from multiple ways if that's a legit one. I don't have a problem with delayed ones, so that's a relief. Whenever I do get hot news via any other media, I do check for the sources, make a few Google searches to validate from my trusted ones, especially when I'm sharing it with others. Because, no way I'm gonna spread false or unverified stuff that would be hellfire.

Nowadays, with the rise of AI, people are easily making fake photos and videos that are being used to spread a serious level of propaganda to create political and religious turmoil. We are expecting an election in the coming week after a bloody revolution in the month of july of 2024. During this period, there were and are countless fake news stories, or so I never believed anything at first place apart from the trusted sources, waited a moment, and got it. Thats how it was going on so far and will be going on as well.

To be honest, a few times I too got provoked or manipulated via fake news. They kinda affect mentally, thoughts, views, or so. That's why I always maintain caution while consuming, especially for the controversial news or so.
