Not so Kind or Selfish

There are people, with thousands of qualities in them. Some are extremely selfish and some go way beyond their capabilities to help others. Also, some won't be too kind to place you before their priorities nor would they cause any harm to you, I do admire these kinds of people for some reason. But these kinds of people are very scarce to see.

Recently, I got to witness them very closely. One couple, the wife is a selfish person but the husband is someone who won't take anyone's help nor would cause anyone harm. Recently, they had problems in their house with the electricity line, their line got mixed with someone else and that's why they brought an electrician to fix it. So there was an LED light in the road to be used by the both homes but the connection was supposed to be from this couple’s house but it's got connected to the other one. If they want to fix this then they would need to go through a heavy workload which is not worth the hassle.

The wife suggested letting it be on the other side as it is now. The cost after the month is going to be very low, won't be exceeding 1 dollar, way less than that which can be ignored pretty easily. But the husband won't let this happen, he is not willing to go this path even if it costs 1 cent to someone else. Though both the families were getting benefitted from it constantly, he doesn't want to leave any scope of someone to say that they are helping them by any means. He wants to be self-dependent as long as he has the means.

Lastly, he fixed it, and even though it took way more than the hassle, he was happy that he didn't put something of his own on someone else’s shoulder. No one can say they paid for him, even if it is one cent.

What do you think of people with this kind of attitude? Is this too much or just appropriate enough for everyone to practice? Personally, I would say that if you can't be kind enough to help others then don't be selfish nor put any kind of unnecessary burden on someone else’s shoulder. I am the type of person who loves to help others, even if this disrupts me often, but I would also never take any help from someone which somehow creates trouble for anyone else.
