Out of Range To Be Connected

Connection, every second we need to be connected with something or someone. Seeing your network's status "No Connection to the Internet" is very painful, a "Connected" status is what keeps us flowing. Sending a friend request? "You are now connected with Mr.XYZ" which creates new stories. So yeah, the connection is pretty much an integral part of our life that comes in different forms. So where am I gonna take you guys today? I will be diving more than fifteen years back to demonstrate a connection that is lost forever and can't be undone or lived again.

Seven or eight years old me, coming back from school. Now I know the roads and the school wasn’t very far from my home. It takes no more than ten minutes of walking. I still remember those walks, school time finishes, and a few friends that used to accompany me halfway. Hundreds of students come out of the school gate, groups walking with five or six friends, and while walking and we are going in different ways one by one on different diversions. The last couple of minutes was only me, a solo walk towards home.

My father is the youngest among his siblings, my eldest uncle loved me the most. Disputes among brothers are pretty common in many places, naive me didn’t understand any of those disputes nor did I care. Actually, my eldest uncle never let their disputes influence us. Our bonding was quite special. I still remember him holding his cigarette between his fingers and a cup of tea in another hand. This was one of his most common activities, I used to collect those square shape packets and play with them. Arranging them one after another like a train and making one fall, the rest of the others will fall one by one, I hope you got it.

So let's get back to the solo walk of mine, the last couple of minutes. I was forbidden to eat any kind of outside foods, but we always have a craving for what we are forbidden mostly. My uncle used to sit in a tea stall as his time-pass to have a sip of the tea with his cigarettes, which is on my way home from school. So whenever I was crossing that road I used to draw his attention as he would call me near him and let me have those snacks, deep fried in oil. To be honest, these kinda junk foods are not so hygienic but too much tempting to resist. So every day he used to fulfill my temptation, it was like a daily routine of ours. Sometimes our timing used to mismatch, suppose my uncle had work to do so he wasn’t there on that day. Naturally, I would have slowed down to check if my uncle was there or not, the person who runs the shop would call me then and hand over my snacks, hahaha. My uncle had said to do that in his absence. So that was an obvious thing for me.

He was my another source of extra pocket money, no one knew about those, and all would praise our bonding, I was his favorite among all his nephews. Well, he is not here anymore. Unfortunately, I couldn't bond this kinda connection anymore with anyone, that was something special.

Don't you see how we get a wifi connection whenever we are in the range of a router? The same used to happen between us, I used to sense happiness whenever I was within his range. Chocolate, Ice-cream, extra pocket money, snacks, whatnot? When one of my demands are not getting fulfilled at home; I used to run to my uncle and then he would manage that to happen. Oh wait, this bonding was only with him, maybe there were a few more such special bondings outside my family. I was quite picky about choosing people at that time, still I have this habit, not everyone can get mixed with me nor can I. So yeah, that's the connection that is lost forever nor can be undone, only the memories I am left with to cherish.

No Connection to the Internet"

One of the most annoying things to see in my life.
There is so much truth in your story and I simply loved it just like I would have loved your uncle if I was you.
You must really have a sweet tooth.

I loved how you ended it.

only the memories I am left with to cherish.

The memories matter and it’s great you know that. Connection- we do need that most times💕

I found interesting the analogy you made with networks, the internet, wifi and relationships with people. Having an excellent connection with someone is one of the most sublime and unique experiences we can have. Too bad your uncle is no longer around!!! Regards

Yeah, it's a matter of sorrow that nothing lasts forever, at a certain point we need to part ways whether we want that or not.
Thank you for stopping by.

Great effort with your use of an analogy. It's great to connect with people, and the memories of your uncle will stay with you forever.
Just as a pointer; It might be a good idea to check this tip of ours for fiction writing that could also apply to your true stories, catalogue of fiction writing tips called Show, Don't Tell.

Thank you for suggesting that tip, I went through it just now and saw how beautifully a few things can be portrayed. I will keep that in mind from next.

Indeed, that was a special connection. I also have such kind of memories which is somehow related to yours. I wish, you were still connected with your uncle.
