Two Way Sword

People from the Indian subcontinent can relate to watching a few trending crime documentary shows titled CID, Crime Patrol, and many more. Nowadays we do have many such programs on the mainstream news channels as well, showing how the criminals are doing many crimes like theft, robbery, rape, scams, murder, and whatnot. Even on YouTube, you can get tons of such crime-related documentaries from worldwide incidents. You will be amazed at seeing them happening around you, their mindsets and activities.

Since I was a teenager, I have always wondered why they are showing them on television publicly. Won't there be more criminals learning from these methods? Attempting to do crimes seeing them here on the television on how to do them uniquely. The answer is, Yes, they are learning, there was a lot of news too on how many criminals are getting influenced by these shows and attempting crimes. Eventually most of them get caught and some might have escaped.

So in the morning, an old news story appeared before me. An interviewer is interviewing a boy who has few friends too. What they do is, one would make a girl fall in love with him, somehow would pursue her for roomdate, and in the middle of that the other friends would break in and rape the girl beating him for acting. The whole scene is set up like he doesn't know those boys, they are the bad ones who took advantage of the situation and the couple is the victim, the girl gets gang-raped and the boy gets beaten. The next day, another friend would trap another girl and the same drama continued. Can you imagine how disgusting this is? I can't level such people as anything but a psycho. You know what, many are too disturbing, you would feel like cursing about how bad we humans can be. Have you seen the Korean thriller “I Saw the Devil” somehow? What's your feeling about that? Same feeling in real-life incidents, around me, in the same society we are living in, monsters all around behind the mask of humans.

Now back to the question, is it wise to showcase these crimes on how they do it in the mainstream media? Now, as I have grown up, I would easily say Yes. Whether we showcase these in the media or not, crimes will take place in one way or the other. Now these can create awareness of how crimes can be committed so better to be alert and avoid such traps where things can go wrong. It's like a knife, you can't stop making and selling publicly just because it can kill a person, you have to see the other benefits too, and trade for the positive by calculating the negative effect we need to bear.
