Unspoken Agreement

Everywhere we go, there is an agreement we are doing with one another, whether it's a human being or something else. I am taking in Oxygen with an unspoken agreement of giving back Carbon-di-oxide to the environment for the trees to reproduce Oxygen for us. In my personal life, there are numerous examples of agreements; willingly or unwillingly, I am bound to keep moving forward, and that's how life goes. Some are so serious that I am afraid of mentioning them, and some are sweet little memories that are lost now, but I will cherish them forever.

During summer vacation, school is off for a long time with piles of homework to finish in the meantime. Morning was an empty period for me to grab that hour to play with my friends, and my mother would always try to bring homework before anything else on that list.

"Mom, I want to go out to play football."
"Have you completed your homework?"
"No, but I will complete them as soon as I come back."
"No, no, you clever boy, last time you said the same and tricked me. This time I am not letting you play the same trick."
"Mommmmmm, I promise, this time, I won't repeat that."
"Okay, you may go."

Those little agreements, from where I grew up, and today's agreements are not so tiny and sweet; few of them are harsh and crucial.

Years of communication get interrupted when misunderstandings interfere. In the name of self-respect, we end up fueling our ego, being blind enough not to be able to differentiate the fine line between what's ego and what's self-respect. We would end up putting an end to our long-cherished friendship, so much misunderstanding that one might easily burst out in hatred, like lava. Did we? Nope. That's where the silent agreement was done, from the respect that we were saving for eternity.

What was the agreement? Every trash of us will be buried between us; no one else will get to smell any of that, and no one should point fingers at our friendship. We knew that our time was special and good enough for the time being. There are friendships ahead of us, better lives too, and better time to spend, which doesn't mean the past was complete shit. So we gotta respect that and keep things within us. Since then, so many years and things have happened, we are still maintaining that silent agreement between us not to play any blame game or disrespect one another. Not all agreements need to be verbal or written with pen and paper; often, unspoken agreements can be stronger than those.

So yeah, for me, this one is the one that is a significant one that is still going on, same as before; not even a thread of difference appeared. And the one I pictured, in the beginning, is from childhood, and it's kinda amazing how fast we grew up from that kinda little sweet agreement to today's one that holds so much importance and seriousness to maintain.

Indeed, we make agreement every seconds, minutes and hours of the day. Some are non-verbal and many times we are not even aware.

I think all of us made many unspoken agreements and sometimes we may not be able to realize it also.

I will complete them as soon as I come back.

I also made that kind of agreement with my mother. This thing memorized me about my childhood.

I know what you relate in your story, I also had many tacit agreements with the people around me, especially with my mother. Today I can say that I still keep tacit agreements with my little nephews, I think that childhood with my mother left that legacy. Hehehe.

Thanks for reliving childhood memories. Very good work.
Good day.

An agreement, is an agreement, whether it’s tacit or express. You musings are interesting to consider. What we need is a story to go with them.
