Garden Journal Bi-weekly Newsletter 11th October 2023

Well I'm back with the newsletter and falling back in love with browsing through the gardening posts. I'll be honest, I was starting to get despondent with it and it was losing its joy, which I'm sure would have disappointed @thebigsweed. Incidentally, while we're on the subject of the hobitizing gardener his homestead is, as always, a joy to behold! I think it might be a Garden Journal entry, though, so I'll leave that with @riverflows.

I don't know if anyone finds these newsletters much use or even reads them any more, but I'll continue to do them for the enjoyment I get from them and to show my appreciation for the gardening goodness the authors bring to Hive.

As I seem to be overlapping with @riverflows' Garden Journal Challenge again my challenge is to find the gems that weren't entries. Imagine my luck to come across a beautiful gardening showcase that could so easily have been a challenge entry, but was in a different community! @godslove123 had me hooked at his ginger plant and the rest of the garden doesn't disappoint either.

I was intrigued by the title of @callmesmile's post claiming to have a bonsai cheat code. The post didn't get any less intriguing as I read on. She was wanting to get a bonsai at least as old as herself without paying out lots of money?! The solution really wasn't what I was expecting.

It was so hard to whittle the next two highlights down to just two. There are just so many tantalising garden posts this week! I ended up selecting @crazyphantombr's experience of composting with worms because it was one of the less well rewarded ones despite how good it was. A thoroughly recommended read.

Then I finally settled on @tegoshei's community garden post, because I just love it when community gets together to grow food...but darn it I still can't stop thinking about those stunning carnivorous plants from @delilhavores' plant meeting! Which was a meeting of carnivorous plant loving people rather than a meeting of plants...although it could also have been that...🤔 I'll let you decide.

Beneficiaries go to @crazyphantombr and @godslove123

Lovely! So far I was actually spending more time in the garden but as weather gets colder I guess I will be reading more and writing down ideas :)

Have you started having any frosts yet? The seasons seem to be flying by these days!

Thankfully, not yet, the last days are even warmer than usual, and we still have some seasonal plants growing outside, no green-housing. Cherry tomatoes, hot peppers and I even planted a few salads last week. Might be just experimental, we'll see :)

Fingers crossed for you that you get something before it gets too cold for them. 🤞

Thank you for the mention at the beginning of your Garden Journal Bi-weekly Newsletter, wow I'm flattered beyond words.

"I don't know if anyone finds these newsletters much use or even reads them anymore"
Well I do, every time you put one out that highlights some wonderful posts I'll read every word. If I'm going to take the time to view a post I find it silly not to sit back and admire what some other gardeners have going on. Many times I learn something new.

Often you will highlight posts that I've not run across. Keep up the great work my friend, it is appreciated even if it's losing its lust for you. By now I think that most people realize that much of what they put out there is not read by too many others. Here's a prime example that was a little disappointing for me.

In my last Garden Journal, I thought it may be fun to guess what was behind the two big beets in the next to last picture. In my mind, I went back and forth with whether or not to state in the post that a prize would be given to the first person who guessed correctly.
I decided against including that there would be a prize, for the sole intent of seeing if anyone would take part without having to have a carrot dangling in front of them. Well, not one person took a guess, no carrot no interest. 😥😥

Even though the prize was not mentioned a prize of 10 hive was what I had intended to gift to the individual who guessed correctly.
Here are the two pictures of what was behind the beets, which I intended to show at the end of seven days as confirmation.

I know that the post has only been out there for 3 days, but another thing that is a reality is that after a few days of a post being out there, it's like dead fruit hanging on a vine. Now, it should be interesting to see if anyone reads this comment and then goes to my post, and then BAM, they've guessed correctly. FUNNY STUFF

As I have said many times before, for me it's all about keeping a log of what Dad/Grandpa/Great Grandpa has been doing on the farm and in life. Knowing that everything I post will be around forever gives me great pleasure, and knowing that future generations can see who we are and what we were all about in a small way. Don't get me wrong, making a few bucks is a good thing, but it finishes a far second to what's meaningful to me, legacy!

Have a wonderful day and keep the faith, some of us are WATCHING YOU.

To be honest I was completely at a loss as to what would be behind those beets. Now I see these I realise I probably should have linked it back to your other recent post on firewood. 😅 Sometimes I just over think and complicate things. Which reminds me of @mattclarke, as does your reason for using Hive as a log for your future generations.

I sometimes put little things in the HomeEdders curation posts to see if people are actually reading and will respond. The offer is generally not as good as 10 Hive, but I still get no responses, because I think most people only look to see where their name has been tagged for beneficiaries. 😆 I don't mind too much, the main reason for it is to encourage posting and commenting. I just don't understand why so many people don't like having long conversations like we do. 🤷‍♀️🤣

I dreamed also to have a bonsai plant that I can spend my time with.
Congratulations to the two who shared their entries.

I don't think I have the patience to look after a bonsai. I always seem to neglect things in pots and forget to water them.

It really requires a lot of effort and patience but still if it will create a good outcome of that bonsai then I'll do it. Hihi.. But maybe when I have my free time, not now that I'm working huhu.
