Garden Journal Bi-weekly Newsletter 14th December 2022

The monthly garden journal will be taking a break in January, but don't worry, there are other garden challenges to keep you inspired. In the Hive Garden community we have the holiday season selfie challenge from @riverflows and over in the Homesteading community there's a weeding challenge from @paradoxtma.

The North is looking very cold as we approach Christmas. A white Christmas is the dream for many. When I see snow, Winter Wonderland often comes to mind, but as beautiful as it looks, it is not an easy time of year for living things. Over at @goldenoakfarm there is plenty of snow, but there are still some plants to be seen.

From winter and this knowledgeable homesteader in America, to summer and another experienced homesteader in South Africa. @breezin often has something interesting happening or good advice to share. This time she talks soil health and nutrition.

Back over in chilly North America @thebigsweed and @farm-mom have been busy with trees. Firewood collecting can't begin too soon for next winter, it seems, and tree protection is another winter job.

If you don't like the cold and want to dream of warmer places, then maybe @arveno's little cacti will be just the thing for you. They are cute in every way and he planted them in a way that makes me think of the desert. Which one is your favourite?

That fireplace looks wonderful, I just want to sit infront of it and snuggle up

Raining, cold and miserable 😫 still feels like winter. It's not even humid. Just cold.

The photos are considered the best I've seen under this heading.

Thanks for the extra exposure! I also noticed that for some strange reason, I wasn't following you, so thanks for helping me remedy that problem!

GREAT compilation post!

Have you stuck with the glasses thing?

I have, but I've come to a stand still. I should probably try and make an optician appointment to see if I've actually made any improvement. 😅 I've been lazy with actually trying to do active focus.

!lol, yeah, that seems to be the pattern, I've known others that tried, too.
So far, I haven't tried mostly because I've failed to find the effort required for the years it must take.
It's good to know not to pass 'corrective lenses' along to the kids, though.

Life just gets in the way too much. 😅 Too much of my work is also doing close up things, which doesn't help.

Enjoy the break!
Our garden is also on break, probably until mid-February. In the last few days there were temperatures below the zero, in C, so... hibernation. :) In February I'll be planting some onions, given the weather allows for it. I'll have a few nights in front of the fireplace as well until then.

Stay warm. Nights in front of the fire place aren't a bad thing. I was wishing for a giant doggy bed this winter just gone, so I could curl up and hibernate in front of ours. 😆

I'll do my best. Already in process of stocking up some red wine bottles.
It may sound a bit hillbilly, perhaps too alpha, but I would love a few days laying on a bear skin with a close loved one, a few bottles of wine, feeling the warmth of fire on our naked skins :)))) Dream on :D

Wouldn't mind curling up with hubby, but our youngest daughter still lives with us, so it wouldn't be naked. Lol! Then I feel like by the time she moves out my father will have moved in. 😅
