Garden Journal Bi-weekly Newsletter 24th May 2023

I'm sorry, I missed a fortnight again! At this rate @riverflows is going to have to change the thumbnails again to "monthly". I hope your May gardening has been amazing. I'm enjoying seeing the activity from the northern hemisphere growing again as it heads into summer.

received_477952270792908.jpeg

In the southern hemisphere we're heading into winter, but over in the north spring is nearly over and soon it will be summer. For the seedlings that have been adorning @goldenoakfarm's windows while it was still too cold for the outdoors, it's now time for them to move out. It's incredible how resourceful people in colder climates can be at making the most of a short growing season. I wonder if there was even a free window in the house all spring.
image.png

Bees do a huge amount of work in our gardens and as @scoutroc noticed, their absence leads to lower yields. So he decided to kill two birds with one stone (honey and fruit abundance) by getting a beehive this year. I'm looking forward to seeing how the bee adventures continue and if there will indeed be both honey and fruit abundance in their future.
image.png

In a conversation between two organic fruit growers, one from South Australia and the other from the UK, they each declared that the most important thing for an abundant harvest was something different. For the British grower it was sun and for the South Australian grower it was water. The very things that the other grower lacked in their own climate. @bigorna1 is in a hot climate, so I can see why water sources and their management are incredibly important, especially when you have such a large property. There are some great types here on making the most of and conserving water.
image.png

What better way to wrap up this newsletter than by taking a stroll with @nikv through an incredible prehistoric looking garden. It's amazing the variety of gardens that can be created and even heading into winter this is still spectacular to see.

You're welcome. I forgot to add beneficiaries, which would have been you, so the tip and vote here are in lieu of that.

Someone in your Community disrespected my Post with the Rose, without leaving a reason why...

You mean the garden community? The post which had a picture of a rose, but talked about silver and gold coins? The post wasn't disrespected, not even downvoted, merely muted for a gardening community. A read through the pinned post should make it obvious as to why it was muted. Wouldn't a stacker community have been a better fit? You can still cross post to such a community and this community's mute shouldn't show there.

Just because I mention Silver and Gold doesn't mean I'm not out in the Garden every day... After all, it does cost a small fortune to create a Garden... You'll never see another one of my blogs in the Hive Garden Community again...

That's not quite how communities work. Even if you garden, if the content of the actual post isn't specific to gardening then it won't be what people expect to see in a gardening community, so they will just ignore it at best. As the content was about gold and silver coins, then a community which is focused on stacking or finance would be a good option. I don't really know much about those communities, but Leo finance should cover anything money/investment related and it's a prominent community.

Do you know how to search communities to find ones that are appropriate?

How do you Pay for your Garden needs...??? I thought the Garden Community might like seeing a nice looking Rose... I deleted everything I wrote, except the First and Last Sentence... There was no call for putting a "GUEST" on "MUTE"... I think the Power went to someones head... I'd love to know who put me on mute... No more replies... This is getting old... A simple comment would have been so much better than being "MUTED"... You have no idea how much that Pissed me off...

Thankyou for your query. There's no need to leave a reason why. Our community supports gardening content - yours wasn't gardening content. If you look at our community rules, we also expect quality content and a minimum word count, as we believe in quality. We advise you to read the community rules in all the communities you post in, and to be respectfully relevant.

I could have become one of your most experienced Gardeners, and Creators of Gardens, but the way it stands now, I will never post another blog in the Hive Garden Community...

Could have. I was looking forward to a post from you where you actually talked about gardens in a comprehensive, dedicated, relevant and well formatted way and didn't re-use a thumbnail of a rose you used back in April. I'll have to be happy with the other fantastic posts in the Hive Garden instead!

Have to say, people rarely have hissy fits when they're muted due to not paying attention to the group rules. Perhaps you're unfamiliar with how communities work, and what muting means on Hive. 99 percent of people just get on with it, or make edits to happily adjust their work, knowing that communities have rules and guidelines to help keep their community full of worthy, relevant and useful content. Every post that has made edits to suit we have unmuted.

Best of luck on your Hive journey.

The photo of the Rose was taken by me... My words are worth more than my photos... Too bad I won't be writing about what I've been doing in the Garden... By the way... My Gardens are Weed Free, and I don't Publish a Garden Magazine... I'm into "How to Design and Build a Dream Garden" for the lowest possible cost...

You all seem to be on Power Trips... I can't do this, and I can't do that... Do any of you Spend Money on your Gardens...??? I could have told you how to get most of it for Free... My Cell Phone takes very good pictures, but I can no longer send them to my Computer for Posting here... Give me a break... I edited out everything between those two line, because if I'm to be "Muted" it's only fair that I remove it from the Post... By the way... Most of us have Lives outside of Gardening... I love gardening, but there's more to me than that... Remember this... Those in Power, made fun of Jesus...

Yeah all shitposts that are irrelevant and low effort get muted, so you aren't alone, don't worry. 💙

I see you haven't engaged with many other gardening posts. Try reading them for inspiration.

You're starting to piss me off... I know more about Gardening than you'll ever know... My post had value that you were blind to... I was a Guest... Your Community treated me like Shit... Leave me alone... I'll never click on another one of your posts, and I hope you do the same with mine...

I'm sure it did, and I'm sure you have great things to contribute, but as per rules of community, we had to mute it. I'm not sure which part of that you are missing. Nevermind, enjoy your gardening etc. All the best.

You had to Mute my Post...??? How about, you didn't have to Up-Vote my Post...??? All you did was to get everyone to Click on my Post to try to find out why it was Muted... You or whoever put my Post on Mute, did Great Harm to the Hive Garden Community... It could have been a Simple Comment about your Rules... You laughed at what happened, as if I was here to entertain you... At the End of the Video, the "Ruler" told Jesus to GET OUT... Is that how your treat your Guests...??? Tell your Guests to GET OUT... Well, you sure did it to me, just like they did it to Jesus... By the way... Never mind...

It makes me want more, for sure! I am unfortunately bounced with a spontaneous attempt with my last post, probably because it was not exclusive English or too short. Too bad.

The plant staircase is now inaugurated and thriving. Photos have been taken. One day I will report. I just don't know where yet. Best regards! !invest_vote

WE definitely don't mind dual language, just make sure it's not in columns or switching between one or the other - do a block post in English, then follow by your language. @anttn does this well - use his style as an example.

Well, my first attempt is muted, then tell me why. I usually don't put English first, but I was impressed by myself making use of a jump link first time ever. See https://ecency.com/hive-140635/@anli/diy-plant-stairs-planning-en#english

Hi @anli, we do put a reason in the pop up box but it would have been muted as the title and beginning of post was in German. Our rules clearly state English only as our curators are English speakers, however, we do make exceptions of English is first and then the second language. As we are always busy, we don't have time to explain on every post why they have been muted, and like other communities, expect people to read the rules and post guidelines we have pinned to our profile, but always respond if people ask why they were muted. Had you asked at the time and quickly corrected it, we would have unmuted. Hope this explains things. Your jump link was very cool though! It's just so much easier for our curators if it's English. It's nothing to do with anything else but ease and clarity. 💙

@riverflows, thank you so much for your feedback on this. Well, to be absolutely honest, when I did the post and read your guidelines afterwards I first needed some empathy for changing my habit of moving English first. Then, after I put in the jump for a compromise, I felt like "Well, we'll see what happens." Next day I saw the mute.

First off, having the post still muted looks and feels awkward. So now after having a full bucket with empathy from my own reflections and yours, I changed the post with ease. Now it's English first and I am looking forward to having it unmuted. My next post already in the back of my head for hopefully being welcome in your pleasant community. !invest_vote

I don't think I could do it. I enjoy the generous climate in SA which pretty much means something will grow all year round. We just need a lot of water to get everything through summer.

I'm not sure that it's a good thing that the days are getting longer, I think that I may be over-farming, as we like to say.

Syrup still hanging in there, but I'll have to get the wife to stop giving it away to the kids. 😁

See you on the other side.
