As a content creator, sometimes I find myself struggling to find public domain images to use which match what I'm writing about and it turns out I'm not the only one. This post will be updated periodically to give artists/photographers an idea of what kinds of images authors are looking for.

If you are an artist please feel free to use it as a guide to what type of images might be popular and if you are looking to use images, but struggling to find what you need, please comment below as to what sort of images you're looking for and help us to build a database.

Recent image requests:

  • Facial emotions; sad, happy, fearful, angry etc.
  • Images for fiction stories; fantasy, horror, romance etc.
  • Decorative dividers
  • Generic natural medicine and natural healing images; herbs, mortar and pestle etc.
  • Environmental images with ecological, natural and renewable ideals
  • Wealth and abundance depictions
  • education themed images

Really such a great idea! I know I've seen some photographers here on the past do posts with images to use, but having a community for people to find them makes it even easier.

the question of images sorting and keeping in a sorted and searchable way, is the hardest part. I wonder how this should / will be organised in this community?

Yeah, might get a little challenging as more and more images are put out. The post links right now are being popped into the pinned post and organized by theme, so it does require a little searching. I thought it was a great idea by @riverflows to save images as you see them on your own computer with the username/link of who to credit. That way you don't have to search back to find it. Though I do understand where you're coming from that it may be a challenge if you just want to search all of them. Perhaps someone will come in with a good idea to help with that!

This is really a great idea. Would be nice to have stock photos ofdiverse categories here instead of scrambling around google searching for unending photo suitable for what one wants to use. I hope the features will be made with ease of accessibility.

I hope the front-ends will evolve to make it much easier. I'll do what I can to make it easier in the meantime.

Axeman has already visited us. 😊

Is that the main post natural medicine did as a call for images that you are referring to or the comments on your post from the natural medicine account? Those were actually posted by @riverflows and @artemislives, I was just tagged for attention.

well, as you're the founder for Stock images group, I guess you to take decisions, and you to ask for answers :)
i dont remember where I left my comments.
what do you think about the watermarks? should the images provided to the group, contain the HIVE logo, or photographer's credits? (and, afraid, a lot of people would be uncapable or lazy of adding them...)

The community is more like a meeting place for creators and authors. Apart from general, universal rules on plagiarism etc. everything is voluntary or organised between the creator and user. This is, after all, a decentralised platform.

We all agree that this is a great idea.
For the idea to come to life, and for the users to fully accept it, at least two things need to be resolved.
First, the photos must be well organized, easy to search, and with at least simple filtering.
Second, support for the community and authors. It would be ideal if this happened automatically. When a user decides to use a certain photo, it is necessary to credit the author and set beneficiaries to the community and the author. Percentages are arguable.
There should be a completely free category as well.
In my humble opinion, the main point should be simplicity.

At this point in time it's a case of working with what we've got. As the posts come in I'll be adding the to an index by type, so it will be kind of like an old fashioned library search by alphabetical order. I realise this will get a bit long winded as we get more images submitted and will likely branch off to different sections. It's certainly not the immediate return of information we've become used to with internet.

Most of those submitting images are saying it's voluntary, or free if you're under 500HP. In a way, they're all free, we just hope that people will choose to set the creators as beneficiaries. Over the years many people have offered up their creations for free use anyway, so it's more on a donation basis.

As you say, percentages are arguable and will be up to the author.

I understand that it is a process, and not the easy one. And of course, the search and the result won't be like we all used to.
I think (no, I'm completely sure) that, if indexing and categorization are not resolved in advance, hours and hours will be wasted just on that. You or someone else will spend endless hours sorting thousands and thousands of pictures. Do you want to do that? I don't think so.
I agree that most of the authors will share their photos for free, but some of them, especially with high-quality or unique photos would like to have some benefits, and they deserve that.
What percentage goes to the community and what goes to the authors needs to be agreed in advance. All authors should receive the same percentage. The exact number (1%, 2%....) is arguable.

The community won't be taking anything. It's just a meeting place for artists and authors. I realise that what I do here is voluntary and I won't be setting any rules, that's up to the creators what they want to set in their posts.

I set it up, as I would prefer to use Hiver's images, rather than those from other sites, because I can then put them as a beneficiary. I realise I can donate to creators on pixabay too, but that requires a bit more work than adding a beneficiary when you post. I thought others might like to do that as well and that there would be creators who are happy to share.
