A Gift?

I have received a very nice gift for Mother's Day, a purple Phalaenopsis. The only catch is that it was a present from a very weird person.

In Spain and other countries such as Portugal, Andorra, Hungary, South Africa, and Lithuania, the first Sunday of May is dedicated to mothers. Other countries have other dates for celebrating that day, the majority of them will celebrate it next Sunday.

In some of the Balcan countries, International Women's Day is celebrated instead of Mothers' Day and it is a tradition to give flowers to women.

Usually, carnations (Dianthus caryophyllus), roses or orchids are the most common flowers used as a gift. My son already said it is a cliche, flowers are not cool.

Huh, no flowers from you, son?

Ok, no problems, I bought that orchid for myself.

😂

Anyway, I like the act of giving instead of receiving a gift, so I pretended I am buying the orchid for someone else, and then I combined nice and useful and gave it to myself. Well, if you think it is not weird, then I can edit the first sentence of my post.

I know that it is very exciting when you have a plant without flowers and you are waiting for the buds and flowers. It is happening right now with my succulents, they are having buds and some of them already bloomed. I am sure you know that is a special feeling, waiting for them. Not knowing how the flowers will be (I will not check on the web to spoil my excitement :D ). But, with this orchid, I made an exception. Two exceptions.

-One - I gave money for it (almost all my other plants arrived in a different way to me).
-Two - I bought it WITH flowers.

I know, I know, a cliche, right?

But... they were so nice...

IMG_20220501_140425a.jpg

The plant has two tall spikes, with many flowers on them. Also, the buds are still there, so I will be able to enjoy a bit more the new flowers. When the spikes go out of bloom, I will probably leave them, as many times new buds again grow there. If the spikes dry, then it is easy to cut them off.

IMG_20220501_140018a.jpg

What I didn't like is the fact that one of the leaves is damaged by a stem that serves to hold the flower spikes. Did they do it on purpose, or it was not intentional, I don't know. But I see that the leaf doesn't like it either. It's a bit yellowish.

Also, the plant was in plastic transparent cellophane, who knows during what time. Plus the roots had too much water, probably that plastic packaging kept inside too much moisture. I saw on roots not so good signs... a bit of mould. I will not water it for some days, that is for sure.

DSC_5149.JPG

Maybe it will be ok now in its new home. If my small white orchid (that looks so tiny and small compared now to this giant) could survive, then there are hopes this one will be fine.

The whole plant looks like this. It is pretty tall and has healthy leaves. We will see how the roots will behave. The spikes are full of flowers, so what could I ask for? No better gift for Mothers' Day than the one I have chosen for myself. Ow, who paid it is less important :D

When is celebrated Mother's Day in your country? Have you received any gifts if you are a mother or have you had to take care of yourself as the writer of this post? :D

Whoever is directly controlling the V2K told me to kill myself.
They told me if I killed myself now it would save the lives of countless others.
Saying the longer I wait to kill myself the more people will suffer.

They are reckless and should have shown the proper media what they had before taking me hostage for 5 years. I know there are many in prison that dont deserve to be there because of this. Your stay in prison will not be fun @battleaxe and friends. People are going to want you dead when they find out what you did. I hope you die a slow painful death. You sick mother fuckers.

Its a terrorist act on American soil while some say its not real or Im a mental case. Many know its real. This is an ignored detrimental to humanity domestic and foreign threat. Ask informed soldiers in the American military what their oath is and tell them about the day you asked me why. Nobody has I guess. Maybe someone told ill informed soldiers they cant protect America from military leaders in control with ill intent. How do we protect locked up soldiers from telling the truth?

Ok, no problems, I bought that orchid for myself.

This had me laughing for some reason.

First of all, this plant screams beauty. What?
The colour of its flowers is so rich.
I am hopeful she would enjoy her new home and be a survivor!

For us here, Mother's day is celebrated on different days by different churches. I am an Anglican, so ours was the 4th Sunday of March. The Catholics celebrated their own last week Sunday. There is also a different day set aside for International Women's Day which was before Mothers Day.

For my mother, I got her, her favourite wines...

Lol...
I need to have a word with your son.😅😅😅
The writer of this post cannot and should not be taking care of herself.
She needs to be pampered and treated sweetly.
I mean, imagine having someone this awesome as your mother and you are slacking on gifting her whatever she wants?

This orchid plant indeed screams beauty, nice expression :)

She has to enjoy the new home and time with me, I like her, but I don't know if it is will be a reciprocated love. If she fails me... well, then I was not lucky 😅

Really, different religious communities celebrate it on different days? That's interesting but then very confusing, seems that even in one country there are different days for celebrating it.

Your mother is a happy one then, she got wine... maybe she immediately started to play the drums, being happy with wine :D

Oh, you could talk to my son, but you know, that age...

LOL

well, maybe you could indeed try to talk to my boy 😁

I totally agree with you.
It is super confusing indeed!

Your mother is a happy one

She really was.
She danced and proclaimed blessings over me (A mothers prayer is so important)

but you know, that age...

Oh that age!
I know them 😅😅😅
I need to sit back and give this some more thought...

Mother's day in Canada is May 8th so this coming weekend. Thanks for the reminder!

That orchid looks quite nice. It has really interesting colors. Its strange that the shop just stabbed the spike through the leaf lol. Hopefully it remains healthy for you. Good luck!

Then just on time, in one week, Mothers' Day for Canadian mothers :))

Yeah, I saw that detail with stabbed leaf just when I came home... but I liked this colour and the other orchids were white and light purple, I would stay with this one anyway.

Thanks for the wish, I think she will be fine with me :D

It's a pity about the leaf, certainly that rod, I don't know how to named that, damaged it, but despite that and what you found in the roots, I know you will take care of it, it is still healthy, it just lacks love 💖!!!!!

The color looks beautiful and will make your home nicer along with your other plants, I haven't seen how they bloom either but it must be something great 😍!!!!

Self-gifting is not wrong or weird hahaha, your son is somewhat right, but when he is older he will understand better hehe, the truth is that it is a nice and symbolic custom, and it is better to give a flower than a fridge or a washing machine hahahaha, many parents do it, my father did it when I was little and I remember one day I told him: do not give her those things, she is not our maid, hahahaha that was a cliché!!!!!

In Colombia it is celebrated next Sunday and in Venezuela too, but what is cliché is to buy special gifts that day, moms deserve it every day!!!!

Very nice your gift, congratulations, plants nourish the spirit; from my heart I hope you have a very nice week, full of success and blessings, I loved the pictures you took, you are a very cool Mom.... You Rockkkkkkk 👍😉🔥🎙️🎹🌱🌷🎶❤️🌟🥂💥💫💯

Don't know... probably is not if we are moderate :D

What? A fridge or a washing machine?
Haha, but those are the household items the whole family is sharing :))
But I can understand...

I know you will take care of it, it is still healthy, it just lacks love 💖!!!!!

Yep, it will receive some piano sounds and care, and hopefully I will still not get into the #PlantKillers club :D

Hahahahaha noooo not that club... with your piano tunes the plant will heal and become more beautiful than it already is!!! 👍😉🔥🎹🎶❤️🌟🥂💥💫💯
