Just one week from the last Spread the Vibes post, a response is coming from the always sunny country, as I like to call it. Music full of summer vibes, sparkling feelings through tunes that once you hear them, you can easily sing those during the winter to warm up a bit. Always the same upbeat rhythm, not to let us fall in the mood. Ready to take this ride right now?

Well, not exactly is that what will be heard in this edition. Not any close to it. Night and darkness will visit this post, although, sparkling attitude is weaved under my skin, as always when facing a Spread the Vibes, Challenge not challenge post. The key to this challenge is to transmit your reaction to the music, or the story you read. To try to express the impression you have gained, although I believe that it is not always easy to achieve. We can listen to a nice song or a great performance, but sometimes nothing new is born from there. A deadlock. Maybe that music left us indifferent, or maybe it’s just too much of a bite to try to express ourselves. Either way, I will try to tackle this story that I received an invitation to participate in. A story of a pianist, unconventional one, that likes to mix styles, to experiment with the instruments and and even use unconventional objects as part of expression on the piano.

It is about a German pianist, Nils Frahm, a young man (well, it is relative what is young) who has already left a deep mark but, at the same time, has a great career ahead of him, I am convinced. With such capacity, I am sure there is still room to develop and celebrate many new successes in the world of music. Many thanks go to the one who presented it to us in this challenge : @Edje. And what a presentation of this pianist and music he showed us. It takes your breath away and makes your skin have those little bumps, caused by all that cosmic and classical piano sound. If you don't believe me, check it out for yourself here

This Nils guy is funny and sweet when talks to the audience. He brings smile and laughter, but with expectation from the listeners and cheering to begin with the music. When it starts, the combination of the effects he makes, mellow sounds, chords making on them crescendo and echo, with very subtle rhythm background, going from very low sounds to really high pitch, opens a different perspective. I listened to it already many times until now, I can anticipate every each sound in my head. Again a bit of fun, entertaining the audience but wow, the second track (I dont know the title of it, @edje can you help with this? ) was the one that knocked me off my feet. The original excitement grew into an absolute adoring of this music. The classic sound of the piano, mixed with those sounds from infinity, from the universe. Distant constellations are invoked by sound, what we on this planet only see at night, like remote bright little dots. Stars. Night. Darkness, permeated with light. Our limited vision can not reach out there. However, exactly during the night, our subconscious takes the lead and takes us right there, away from the realities of everyday life. In dreams you have no boundaries, only other dimensions. If you are not one of those who dream during the day, and that is anyway not very recommended if you are at least somewhat attached to reality, then night is the one that can give you that experience.

Night, you guessed. My response to Edje's post will come through a piece, with the same title! And, it will not be just piano sound. It will be kind of a fusion. I used a backing track, coming right from the head of that Ludovico man. Not a new name in my posts and neither in Spread the Vibes challenge. But, playing along with a backing track that contains some synthetic sound was a bit challenging. Well, most of my Sunday went on trying to match my piano playing with it. Finally, it is here. I edited it in black and white version, the dark went better in this music. Or, don't you even watch the video, just listen to it, I think better reception can be achieved. Ladies and gentlemen, Night by Ludovico Einaudi on stage!

Oh, well, I was focused so much to the music, that I almost forgot to remind all of you what is this Challenge. It is a way of having some fun, spreading some vibes that music can give us and invite others to follow up. Until now, musical vibes were on spotlight, but today I would like to invite all who want to participate with other kind of expression to join. Writing? Perfect! Drawing, digital art , photography? Cool. Music, spot on also. Be creative and bring your response in the way you feel the most comfortable. In any case, check out the initial post, but feel free to add your mark. Though, the invitation goes to everyone, I would like to encourage some users :) The same ones I invited in my first edition of Spread the Vibes, back in February.

I would be happy to invite you once again, @ewkaw :) Many times you share music in your posts, and that made me more confident in inviting you again. Monochrome photos? Story? Music? Anything can come as response!

@bertrayo, well, why not bringing some music again...or poetry maybe? :) Or some new instrument you are making? Feel free to respond in the way you want!

@andrewmusic! The awesome guitar player who made a surprise and brought a spontaneous collaboration some ten days ago to the scene!! Thank you once again. I would be glad to hear some more of that singing guitar!

@edje, I know, you would not miss a new Spread the Vibes post, would you? If you liked this fusion of styles, grab this post and bring some more of those great talents, like was the case with Nils Frahm.

Almost a week after your post, I realised we only talked about your contribution to Spread the Vibes off-chain. For sure this post deserves an on-chain acknowledgement as well. I love the challenge you took upon yourself: Playing the piano to a great electronic track! Must have been quite a challenge to get things right and in sync (as you pointed out in your post, but that goes without saying). Great performance. Nice tough to have the video in B&W and very much like the space-like photo :)

Am amazed by the way you write about Nils Frahm. I wish I could do that but seem to have great difficulties transforming what I feel when listening to music into words. But I am not the topic of this response: Compliment to you! 🙇

I shall up the challenge. For sure I need a little more time than the week you took. But, I promise I'll respond to your invite. I just hope I can come up with something that moves you like Nils Frahm does 😉 🎶

Just one week from the last Spread the Vibes post, a response is coming from the ...

Almost a week after your post, I realised ...

It seems that this spread the vibes edition is determined by this weekly pace. Imagine how cool would be if I would wait one week with the response :D

JK 😇

I am also happy with the fact that I played to this electronic backtrack, and although it was the very first time (ok, I played to one track some two weeks ago, but not this kind of electronic sound) and I know it is not perfect as I hear when it is not, I am still happy with the result. Ok, half happy, as I think I haven't spread very well the vibe, but who knows :)
Video edition - still struggling to find a nice recording angle. I do like this one, just keys and hands, but I don't like the fact that lately all are this kind. Not very comfortable anymore to record other way. So, at least it came in black and white, also as it is night. The space photo, I am satisfied with it too. :)

Ok, how I described Nils is just a traction of the things I wanted to say. Just a small part. Had much more to say about the piano he uses, the way he uses it, the strings and how he made that monochord kind of piano, using just one string instead of three tiny ones in high register, two in the middle and one in the bass part of the piano. He made that with less keys also, he didn't need the 88 keys as in standard piano; also, without a frame; the loop he is using, the other electronic stuff I don't understand, but, but... I will tell you something when I have a clear idea what I want to try one day. Inspired by Nils, maybe. And by other likewise things. And, I wanted to describe his way of expression, his whole body-mind giving into music, but yeah, I don't know how, I forgot to write it down! The energy, the movements, soft and rough, eyes closed and playing flawlessly, energetic repetitions of the same note, the growth of sound...how he was concentrated and sweated. Many people even don't understand what work is all this. Hahaha, "musician", the "title" that it is undervalued so many times.
He touched that very important topic, what he is? What we are? His case is more complex: a pianist, composer, sound engineer, dj, musician. ? Nothing is enough and good. Clearly, when I say I am a pianist, people usually ask, yeah, ok, but what is your real profession?. Or, you can really live from that? How do you make your living? It is just considered as a hobby so many times. Btw, clearly would not be enough right now to make a living from that.

I didnt notice you had difficulties to describe what you see or hear when you like something. It is just the extent to what one connect to the certain topic and see the concrete things and add a little bit of shape to it. But you see, I forgot to do all of this in my post so no compliments to me either 🤣 Nada!

You will see if and when, but maybe just leave it to have space. I made my response in one week, maybe it was too fast, hahah, but the first editions took me hours not even days :D Maybe today, I would already make it better, as some crazy glimpses and ideas came what I want to try out. Maybe just dreams, we will see. Ow, well we are in the topic of night and other dimensions, so why not dreaming :D
First step, I am going to buy a new laptop. That at least has to be reality.

To the topic of pianists and the question: "Can you live from it?"... I think that may be the question, the mass asks anyone who says he or she is playing some sort of instrument, or play as a DJ. Many many many don't make enough money to live from it. I know some good artists (electronic producers and DJ, or as Nils would name them: composers) who really need another income to pay their bills. I wished for them, they would've been in a different situation, ie getting more bookings without the need to have other sources of income. That said, only in my country, we have sooooooooo many peeps who DJ at home, for themselves, for friends. Many of them would not say no when they get a chance to perform on stage, free or paid. I even believe so many would actually like to be a paying DJ, but the market can handle just a finite number. Maybe there is some truth in the question "Can you live from it?". I expect most of the musicians, composers, DJ, can't live from it, hence it may be classified as a hobby. Not nice to hear when one wants more out of it though. Life can by cruel.

The Nils guy a special one, I must admit. The moment I heard him say: the Piano is not finished in its development, I was intrigued. That's a quite bold statement :) But I think he can get away with it, since he created his own piano. You think he does sports every day? When making a performance like he does in the vid, one needs to be trained like a F1 driver. Maybe if he wants he can outdrive Max Verstappen and Louis Hamilton? Maybe in a upgraded F1 car with some piano integrated? .... owwwww, I must have ended in some dark, dreamy space right now. F1 Piano cars and all can't be just invented in the real world :)

I think that music is classified as hobby, you state well. Though, professional musicians should not be classified just in that group, as they have chosen to make their career as a way making the living. Earning through a hobby :D

Hahaha, your dark, dreamy space is cool :) Reminds me of a dear student. His background : parents living is a super dedicated way of earning nice money, the boy (11,12 years old) found his life in the digital world. Even on workday when he has school, he spends probably 7-8 hours in front of the computer, games, discord and what not more. Weekend or vacation - the double. Btw, super intelligent, we always talk a lot on his lessons. So he has only two activities his parents pay just do to something else than games. Private piano lessons and carting. He was soooooo excited a few days ago when he told me he has got his own go-kart!!! His eyes were shining then. And of course, he always talks about F1 and moto GP, and never misses to watch the full weekend race. Lando Norris is is favourite F1 driver. So, I think he would love to have a F1 with integrated piano keyboards, hahaha, even he plays the songs always so fast 🤣

Once, he had an idea, how to make a moving piano chair, like if he has to play in high register the chair would follow the movement of the body.. and said, probably Elon Musk should invent it 🤣

Only 12 years of age and already investing concepts!
You can tell him to go to a do-it-yourself construction store, get 4 little wheels and attach that to his current piano chair and voilá. No Elon required hahahaha
F1: rarely watch it these days. Done so in the 90s. Since Max is in F1 and doing well, half of Holland is watching, even those who never ever followed F1. The orange connections at play :)

The chair thing he said already some two years ago :)
Now he was interested in G force while he drives carting, why some browser is better than other and things about data privacy (he saw my Brave browser on the phone while I was setting the metronome), he heard about crypto currencies and for Christmas he asked his parents for DNA test hahah. I sad what? A DNA test? Yes, he did an Ancestry DNA test to have information about his geographic origins.
Curiosity drives him 🙌
