Saludos!!

Back to you, today I bring you an interesting and useful post for everyone, in order to educate you and let you know what the simple test FULL HEMATOLOGY is for. All this because I have seen many mothers and fathers taking urine and stool samples from their children for a complete hematology; I guess the term confuses them.

Greetings!!!

THE BLOOD
If we observe blood with the naked eye, it looks like a simple red liquid, but the truth is that under the microscope, we can see everything that composes it: cells, ions and molecules, indispensable for the development of life. This is precisely what hematology is all about.

Hematology is a science that studies the blood and its components, as well as associated pathologies.

COMPLETE HEMATOLOGY is a blood test that seeks to determine the levels of white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets. And they are the only parameters that are part of this test. These cells originate in the bone marrow.

A complete hematology does not include stool or urine.

**WHITE BLOOD CELLS

White blood cells form part of our body's first defense barrier, along with other molecules. They are mainly made up of neutrophils (defend against bacteria), eosinophils (against parasites and allergens) and lymphocytes (against viruses). Others are basophils and monocytes in a very small amount.

Their normal levels range from 4,500 - 11,000 per mm3. They increase or decrease according to the patient's condition. For example, they decrease greatly in the presence of viruses, such as dengue, kissing virus or HIV. They increase in bacterial infectious processes and in inflammations, including pregnancy. In cases of leukemia, they increase severely.

RED BLOOD CELLS

Red blood cells, also known as red blood cells or erythrocytes, are the cells that carry hemoglobin, which transports oxygen throughout the body.

Their normal levels are between 3.5 and 4.5 million per mm3.
They decrease mainly in cases of hemorrhages, lack of iron, low levels of folic acid and other vitamins, kidney problems, bone marrow problems, among others. They increase in cases of bone marrow problems, excessive consumption of foods rich in vegetables and meats.

PLAQUETAS

PLAKETS

Also known as thrombocytes, they are the cells that participate in the formation of the first plug to prevent bleeding. They are very small and are normally found between 150,000 and 450,000 platelets per mm3.

Platelets decrease in viral cases, such as dengue and covid-19, and parasitic cases such as malaria. Also in cases of thrombocytopenic purpura. When they increase exaggeratedly they give rise to thrombosis.

OTRAS PRUEBAS

OTHER TESTS.

The following parameters are also part of this test:

  • Hematocrit: number of red blood cells in relation to the amount of blood.
  • Hemoglobin: a very large molecule that carries oxygen to all tissues.
  • CVM: size of red blood cells.
  • VMP: average platelet size.

The last two are determined by using automated equipment.

IMPORTANTE

IMPORTANT

Take into account the care of the blood cells of our body, through a healthy diet, rich in vegetables, including grains, which provide us with vitamins such as folic acid, citric acid and B complex, and minerals such as iron and calcium. Consume fresh fish and white meats, abandon red meats.

**White blood cells do not increase or decrease with food, but it depends on the processes the body is going through. Food is to strengthen the defense system, and prepare it for battle.
