Ever since I was a kid, anytime I watched an interesting Chinese movie, the next thing I do is to begin to replicate their fighting moves, now that I'm a little older and can't put myself through such stress, what I do is to speak like them. However, for this particular movie, it didn't only have me speaking Chinese, it also had me doing all the breathtaking moves I could grasp. This movie is epic. The story is based on manga series "Kingdom" by Yasuhisa Hara (first published 2006 in weekly Japanese magazine Weekly Young Jump).

"Kingdom" is a story about a King in China who was betrayed by his half brother, dethroned and almost killed but was saved by a slave who looked exactly like him and died in his stead. The slave also had a friend who helped the King carry on his duties by fighting beside him and helping him regain the Kingdom that was stolen and changing the course of history. One can also say the story is about two young boys who were common slaves but became very instrumental in helping the King to achieve his dreams.

The movie started with a slave boy Shin joining Hyou another slave boy to work in their masters stead, but they had ambitions to be great warriors with the belief that it was the only way to get them out of slavery, so they trained themselves to fight intensively, even while carrying out their duties, they soon grew up to become very fond of each other, challenging themselves and increasing their strength and skills daily. Meanwhile there was already rife in Qin, a Kingdom in China, the Kings brother had begun a rebellion which made the King flee.

The rest of the movie shows us how King Eisei had an adventurous quest through the depths of hell and still carried on courageously, not flinching for once in his desire to help the people and restore law and order even more, unite the whole of China. You don't even want to see the evil brother, you might just kill him yourself lol.

The character to look out for in this movie is Shin, the unruly slave boy who grew up to become an excellent swordsman. It is fair to say he put the action in the whole movie. I like the fact that the movie is action packed from the beginning, no dull moment at all. There was even a part where a woman was the leader of a savage clan which is quite unusual for Chinese movies, but the role was perfectly executed. You are also going to experience a lot of suspense as each scene is unpredictable.

You should also expect to see a lot of battles, against assassins, against large armies and fierce warriors. I love the action parts because it was rich in fighting style, swordsplay was at its peak and even the extra effects were close to real. I'm a huge fan of anime's turned movies, and I will watch this again and again if I could.

Here's a trailer for you to watch. Thanks for reading.
