Nigerian Style Of Making Fish Roll || Step By Step Recipe || My Weekend Highlight

I was conversing with a pregnant friend a few weeks back when she mentioned that she was wanting fish roll and wanted to make some.

Suddenly, I had a strong desire for Nigerian fish roll.

Despite the fact that I frequently prepare exquisite chicken and beef rolls, I had never tried Nigerian fish roll before, so I decided to give it a try.

I researched for a guide on YouTube and Google, but there isn't nearly as much content on Nigerian fish pie as there is on meat pie (Yes, emphasis on Nigerian).
The good news is that the step is similar; the only change is the filling.

So, armed with my meat pie knowledge and the minimal information I could find on the internet, I created the most delectable Nigerian fish pie I'd ever tasted.

I'm not kidding.

It was confirmed by my mother as well.

I prepared fish pie for the first time tgjs morning. It was so good that I felt it would be a sin not to share the recipe with you today.

So, without further ado, I'll give you the Nigerian fish roll recipe so you may try it and witness for yourself.


The Ingredients For Baking The Dough


  • Plain Flour

  • Baking Butter

  • Nutmeg

  • Baking Powder

  • Milk (evaporated milk)

  • 1 Egg

Ingredients For The Filling


  • Large Fish

  • Onion and Red Pepper

  • Vegetable oil for frying

  • Salt and Maggi to taste


Steps In Making The Dough


Step 1: Combine the flour, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt in a large mixing bowl.


Step 2: Now squeeze out the baking butter into the flour, crack the egg and add to the flour and mix with the tip of your fingers until a crumb-like consistency is achieved.


Step 3: Add the milk (evaporated milk) incase you don’t have milk you can use If you don’t have milk, you can use water, Now gently mix together with the tips of your finger. This helps to achieve a balance


Step 4: Now take the dough, get a clean rolling pin or use a clean glass bottle if you don’t have rolling pin, roll it to a flat surface



Steps In Making The Filling


Now that the dough is ready the next step is to make the fish filling

Step 5: Cut the fish into your preferable size, then add salt and maggi, then parboil in a low medium heat.


Step 6: Remove the boiled fish from heat, now get a fork and knife to squeeze the fish into different pieces.


Step 7: In another sauce pan, add the vegetable oil and allow to pre-heat for 2 minutes, then add the sliced onions and the red pepper and fry for 5 minutes


Step 8: Now add the fish and fry for some minutes.



Adding The Filling To The Dough And Frying The Fish Roll


Step 9: Now cut the dough it your preferred rollable size, then gently fill the fish sauce


Step 10: Roll it together, repeat for the rest of the dough now cut into your preferred size and place it in a clean tray.


Step 11: Now let fry, in another clean pot or sauce pan. Pre-heat the vegetable oil, then gently add the fish roll, deep fry till it turns brownish repeat for the rest of the rolls.


You'll be amazed by how crispy and delicious this is!

Serve it hot with your favorite cold or hot beverage.

It looks delicious, i'll probably pass because of the type of fish thats being used, however, its not easy at all to run through all the process, you're totally hardcore. Welldone.
