Taking care of a child is not a game, it involves dedication, effort and knowledge, and when the daughter or son is not yours, the responsibility doubles. What should we take into account?
The care of children is primarily the responsibility of the parents (of both), they are the ones who received the privilege of raising, forming and teaching this little being that is growing into an adult, ready to make their own decisions.
However, generally for economic reasons many parents are obliged to entrust their child to another person for a few hours of the day or sometimes even more, this allows them to perform their work activities to bring support to the home.
Generally, children are left in the care of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins or other responsible adults. They can have a positive or negative effect on the child's upbringing. How to do it right?
At present I do not have children, but I have always liked children, so I have been entrusted with their care for periods of time and in the process I have learned apart from the basic care, other important things to keep in mind when caring for someone else's child and I would like to share some of them with you:
They are not your children:
It is normal to get very attached to a baby, because they radiate tenderness, however, we must be careful not to generate in us an excessive sense of belonging and make the baby dependent on us as if we were their parents. Many children are accustomed to call mom or dad to the people who take care of them and this generates confusion in the child. True parents deserve their place.
Do not overrule parents:
Parents are the ones in charge of their children's education, therefore, they are the ones who establish the rules at home. To gain the love and trust of the children we could allow them to do some things that their parents forbid them to do, even for a little while, but in reality, by doing this we are disallowing the parents and that makes the child lose respect for them and we would be teaching them to be disobedient.
Do not victimize the child for discipline:
Many children tend to accuse their parents when they discipline them and although it is not pleasant to see a child crying or sad, we should not say words like: "poor thing", "so bad your mom or dad scolded you", the best thing to do is to calm the child by making him/her recognize his/her mistake and teaching him/her how not to do it again.
Be patient:
Taking care of a child requires patience and if you are not the mom or dad you need even more. Generally, children get into mischief and some are more energetic than others. If they misbehave we must be patient enough to correct them calmly and lovingly. No parent likes to be scolded with annoyance.
Teaching values:
Among the things we can teach children is to cultivate important values such as respect, generosity, gratitude and others that may surprise parents. We do not want the opposite to happen and parents feel changes in the child of rebellion, tantrums and other things.
Every parent likes to feel that they are leaving their child in good hands and to see good results. So, child care providers can be of great help to parents.
