The Skill Of Focus

"If You Can Master One Skill Instantly"

If someone asked me which skill I would want to master instantly, many people would probably expect me to say coding, forex, programming, graphic design or even foreign language. Those are all valuable skills, but I would choose the skill of "focus."

We live in a world full of distractions. Everyday there's a new opportunity, new trend or another profession that promises financial freedom. Social Media has made it worse. One person becomes successful on YouTube, and suddenly everyone wants to become a YouTuber. The next day crypto is making headlines, and people abandon what they were doing to become traders. A few months later, data analysis, artificial intelligence, or another high-income skill becomes the new buzzword and the circle repeats itself.

I have seen this happen to someone I know. A friend of mine, was once passionate about starting a YouTube channel. She would spend time creating and editing her videos, it was exciting in the beginning but before she could give herself time to see meaningful results, she abandoned it and jumped into crypto trading. She was convinced that crypto would change her life faster.

Not long ago she said she was thinking of leaving crypto trading to learn data analysis instead. There's nothing wrong with learning data analysis, it is a valuable skill but the problem is that she hasn't really mastered any of them. She keeps moving from one to another hoping that the next opportunity will be the one that finally works.

Listening to her made me realize that many of us does not lack opportunities, we lack focus.

There is a saying that says " A jack of all trades is a master of none." While having knowledge in different areas can be useful, but constantly abandoning one and jumping into another, often leave us with little to show for our efforts.

We become beginners again and again without reaching the level where our hard work starts producing real results.

There is nothing wrong with changing careers when you discover a path that truly suits you better. However, there is a difference between making a thoughtful decision and constantly jumping from one trend to another because the current one requires patience.

That's why I think focus is one of the valuable skills I need to possess. I was once like my friend. Jumping from one unfinished skill to another. But focus will teach me patience and consistency in a particular skill and then accelerate.

If I master the skill of focus instantly, I would become someone who stays committed even when things get difficult. I would stop chasing every shiny opportunity and devote myself in becoming excellent at one.
