Mallard Duck on the Elbow River

The Canadian Mallard duck is a familiar and beloved species of waterfowl found throughout Canada. The males, known as drakes, have vibrant and striking plumage. They showcase a green head and neck, a yellow bill, a white collar, and a chestnut-colored breast. In contrast, the females, called hens, have more subdued colors with a mottled brown appearance for camouflage purposes. They typically have an orange-brown bill and lack the colorful patterns seen in males.
