Mosquitos and giving blood for a good shot

I was out on a hike one day and decided to take a little rest. Mosquitos had been landing on me all day and taking nips. So when one landed on my hand I avoided my instinct to swat it away and though it would be a good chance for some macro.

I was using my Nikon 35mm lens with extension tubes attached which made it much easier to shoot with one hand as the lens itself wasn't quite as heavy as a real macro lens and the extension tubes also were quite light. I only had to move my camera in and out to get into focus.

I knew I had to let the mosquito feed relatively undisturbed if I wanted to get some decent shots. Once it had its fill it flew off and left me a little bloody but none the worse for wear.
