Scotiabank Saddledome home of the NHL Calgary Flames at night

Built in 1983 to serve as home for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey and also a centerpiece of the 1988 Winter Olympics. The saddle shaped roof is an iconic part of Calgary's skyline. For these shots I was atop Scotsmans hill which provides an amazing vantage point of the city.

The same shot in black and white. I find I like both. I used a starcross filter on a 50mm lens to give the street lights a star like effect which appears more prominently in the black and white version.

The city skyline has grown quite a bit since this shot. The tallest building the Bow seen on the left portion of the image with some cranes still atop is one of the tallest buildings in Western Canada. Since then 2 more skyscrapers of about the same height have completed construction. In a few years the Saddledome will be replaced by a more modern arena which I really look forward to seeing.
