A good way to begin.

I can't, in explicit details narrate what happened to me, since the beginning of the holiday season.

All I can say is that, as the festivities brouhaha was intensifying, my social battery was abating.

I lost interest in every fun activity. I suddenly started loathing hangouts.

To make matters worse, non of my siblings visited home this year.

They always do. I guess they stayed back because my mum came back few months ago, from a long visit she paid to my elder sister

The thing is, I'm staying close to my mum, despite not living with her.

My other siblings are in other cities entirely. Nigeria is a big country. Hence non of them is close to mum and I.

If any of them had visited, perhaps they would've brought the festive vibes alongside.

But, I was left alone.

I didn't even get my outing outfits ready.

My life was cycled around, eating, reading, writing, teaching online classes, sleeping etc.

I didn't even chat much, just to avoid being nudged to hang out.

Even on 25th december, I was still low-key.

I think I was completely changed by the new year's aura, because as soon as I heard the scream of "happy new year", it was as though the sound waves, emanating from those joyous shouts shot some doses of social energizer into my bones.

I was over joyous. I started chatting my friends up.

I had a long chat with a friend who's so special to me. The warmest chat we've had lately. The banter developed naturally to a place, where we had to hang out together.

What next? we scheduled a time and venue.

We met in the biggest mall in our city.

She was running late for our meeting since she had other things to attend to before coming.

While waiting for my friend. A lady approached me, requesting that I give her some snapshots. I agreed almost immediately, since it was a good way of passing time, while waiting for my friend's arrival.

I gave her a lot of shots, which I transferred to her phone.

We had a selfie together as well. I only preserved the selfie. I deleted others to declutter my phone.

I also used the moment to take selfies.

This was me running into my student. He was with his family and they were all pleased to see me.

I captured other scenes as well.

I entered a lounge and ordered for a glass of smoothie. While waiting for my order, my friend called to announce her arrival.

She came in company of her close friend, who is well known to me.

She had earlier informed me that she will be coming with her. I didn't mind. Infact I had always wanted to see this friend she likes talking about. Yesterday was my first day of meeting her.

I took them into the lounge, where I was waiting for my fruits smoothie.

My friend didn't particular love the spot, so they had to sit in silent and watched me gulp down the relishable smoothie. Too bad that she didn't care for it. She rather opted for ice cream.

As soon as I was done with my drink, I went with them to a supermarket within the arena, where we bought ice cream and other snacks.

Before we were done, the whole arena was filled up.

We couldn't find a comfortable spot to sit and take the ice cream.

I had to go and secure seats in front of another lounge, still within the vicinity.

They wouldn't allow us sit there except we buy from them.

I had to buy goat meat pepper soup.

I didn't really care for the ice cream, but I helped them out since the bowl was quite big for the both of them to finish.

It was more of their day, not mine.

So I asked them to join me in feasting on the goat meat pepper soup.

By the time we were done, with chatting, laughing, eating, taking pictures etc, the dusk had settled in and we were already moving into night hours.

Non of us really love keeping late night.

We exited the mall and made our way home.

I walked them down to where I was sure they'd find a cab to their destination. That was before I finally made my way home.

They loved the moment and I did as well.

Just before the lights of Christmas fades, let it not be said that I didn't join the fun.

Before we settle back to the rat race of much business with little fun, let it be on record that I dedicated a day to pleasure.

That's how I began my a year.

With fun, with good company, with laughter, with lots of energy, with good vibes, with love and with sharing.

What a way to begin!

I hope to see more of these, as we navigate through through the year.
