Doing much with limited time.

It is typical of a Nigerian young adult to have a lot on his plate. Especially those that want to amount to something in the society. The economic situation of the country and its socio-political atmosphere loathes every appearance of averageness. The system works against those that are both poor and financially average. You can't afford to be average here. Being average is tantamount to being a nobody.

In here you need to aim big and crush gigantic goals to even lead a normal life. By this I'm not even talking of leading a life of luxury.

As ordinary as it is in many climes, to set up an e-commerce website and have an Internationally accepted payment gateway, in here, it is a no small feat. You have to scale a lot of fences and learn many hacks inorder to do what is simply done by others.

That's due to fact that our country seem to be alienated from the global economy, so when an individual wants to access the global market, it becomes the person's sole responsibility to build a bridge that will connect him and his business to the rest of world. And doing that as an individual could be exhausting, because you literally have to manoeuvre the system.

At a point crypto currency almost became a leveler, in the sense that it provided a means of making and receiving payment internationally, but it soon relapsed, owing to the implementation of a policy, put forward by our Central Bank. The policy restrained all financial institutions in the country from engaging in any form of crypto related transaction.

Now we are back to where we were_away from the global economy.

That's why it is common in Nigeria to have a young man like me who can be said to be doing well with his offline work, yet be found daily on the internet space trying to gain more knowledge and still make more money.

It is neither greed nor lack of contentment. It's simply because of our clime.

For someone like me and many others in my situation, time becomes a scarce commodity. Most days I'm swamped with so much work that I'd wish the day was longer than 24 hours.

I am not just a school teacher, my service is more in the line of Education-Consultancy.

I get consulted on everything that has to do with speech and elocution. I teach English phonetics to both students and teachers.

There are days I do have a training session with teachers after an exhausting teaching session with students. Afterwards I will still have the drive to read and watch tutorial videos on any skill that is relevant to my growth. I might also come up here to either make a post, curate an article or engage.

Despite all of this, I still have spiritual exercises like prayers, studies, meditations etc, that I endeavour to carry out every day.

I also don't want to lack a social life. I still need the time to reach out to some lovely friends, and perhaps have a hangout some days.

I want to be complete being.

I want to be that man who had a career, a spiritual life and a social life.

I should be able to maintain a balance as much as I can in all of these life's aspects.

You see, when I say that time is a scarce commodity to me, I'm not in anyway exaggerating.

For someone like me, who is swamped with work; time-management becomes a necessity and not merely a cliche.

With proper time management I still get to do most of these things quotidianly.

If you're like me, you just have to seriously plan your time.

  • Don't haphazardly go through your day.

  • Make a list of what you have to do in a day.

  • Give all task a timeframe.

  • Religiously stick to the plan and piously execute the tasks.

  • Barely give ear to what isn't part of the plan except where something serious comes up.

  • Being able to stick to what matters is the hallmark of maturity.

hehehe @bluefinstudios .... do you see these guidelines at the end of the post???

seee?? I'm not the only one that plans out my day to a tight schedule! hahahahahaha

Well done, @mmykel !!!! Plans and schedules help us to see if we are still on target! and when we go off course and how to get back on! :)

sorry that you are still dealing the crypto currency issues - but Hive is a partial solution for you there!

at least for friends on Hive - you can easily trade back and forth through wallets here securely! hehehehe

but for a business... yeah - more difficult for sure. (unless you can find a way to connect that business to hive ! hehe)

I'm so so delighted to see this comment of yours, I believe that you're now well and hearty.

I've been missing in action lately, but I'm slowly crawling back.

Sure! Hive is indeed a partial solution.

There could be a way to connect, but the larger audience might not trust it. Once people can't see a payment method they trust, they are pissed off already.

When any resources are limited but especially for time planning and scheduling your day becomes essential as you say and it sounds like your making every effort to make optimal use of the time you have

Being able to stick to what matters is the hallmark of maturity.

That's the jest of the whole conversation.

Lives are becoming more and more difficult in developing countries. In my country as well there is increase in unemployment and poverty. The inflation has broken the people's back. If one wants to live an average good life, he must value the time or the life is gona be more of a trouble.

Thanks to @dreemport that brought me to this inspiring article

Yeah that's the gist.

If one wants to live an average good life, he must value the time or the life is gona be more of a trouble.

I like the way you put. It's indeed a necessity
to make good use of one's time.

Planning my day meticulously is how I survive, I tell you, @mmykel!

You are right about our clime and how we (our governments) stand in the way of our own growth and economic development.

No room for average lifestyle. We either aim high or just rot below. Sad thing is I still see lots of youth who laze around, living entitled lives and expecting some 'aunt' or 'uncle' to cater to their needs when they could cause some serious changes with their brains and brawns!

Thanks to @dreemport for bringing me here. 😁

I guess it's the only way to survive.

My only only problem is that they will become a problem to some of us tommorow, thinking that we just got lucky.

It's a pathetic case!

It's good to have you here.

My 24 hours isn't enough anymore, I have so many tasks that no matter how much I try I would always not accomplish all.

I would try your tips and see how it works.
Thank you, found your post via @dreemport

It's not enough for everybody. We just have to plan what we have well.

No time to check time self 😂 that seconds you would use to check the time, please just use it to come and say Hi to me 😉

By the way, I agree with you that we do have so much in hand that the 24 hours won't be enough but there's nothing we can do about the time moving. We can only try to manage the time and do the ones we can.

Having priorities is very important in managing our time, we get to do what's most important and full fulfilled for every time that passes by.

Nicely written @mmykel I got here through @dreemport 😊

I agree that it is tough being a Nigerian, extra tough if you are a youth. I have also come to realize something about time management recently because of how busy I have become. Even though I don't jot anything down as per schedules, I usually have my days planned in my head nowadays and try as much as possible to stick to it. Because I don't have a 9 - 5 job, many people just expect me to be available at their beckon, not even minding to ask how I eat and feed my family. Nevertheless, ti is important to find time to relax.

Good write up.

People are funny. They just wanna use you, not minding the fact that you've got what to do with your own time.

Hello to you,

allow me speak to you from the perspective of an older person; and for the sake of provocation:)

If you are young and healthy, you have energy, a lot of it. I remember the years when I was in my mid-twenties and I could work like an ox. All of us at that age could effortlessly get through a week of work, only to rush into the weekend to dance and flirt with the energy we still had left. Party until three in the morning and go to work hungover the next day? That too: no problem!

If you love what you do to some extent, my question to you would be: Isn't work itself a place where you can fulfil your needs? What makes students less stressful for you? How can you bring joy and your love of the English language to your students or even colleagues without feeling too dominant of a strenuous effort? When have you been able to inspire your class, what was the difference? What are the golden exceptions to what we all feel is a treadmill at times?

I would say "be selfish" and try to bring as much inspiration and fun into your work as you can under the given circumstances. Do you have some leeway? Use it. Do you find certain difficulties a hindrance? Accept the challenge. Are there conflicts? Consider them as your potential for maturity.

But nothing in the world will make you skip the fact or take a shortcut to what it means to gain experience in life and work, with it might come what you financially long for. No master fell from the sky.

Leave room for spontaneity alongside all the planning. A funny saying that somewhat contradicts what you no doubt find helpful for yourself: "When man plans his life, in the background fate falls off its chair laughing." ;-)

All the best to you.
