How I spent my special day

I teach elocution in schools as a freelancer. There are days I have to teach in two different schools. Today was one of those days. I went to the first one at 8 a.m. It's a nursery/primary school. Out of the three schools I'm currently teaching, this happens to be my favourite. I was quite delighted that I did go there today, which happens to be my birthday.

The proprietor of the school, though an elder to me and a highly qualified educator, relates to me as a friend. Our relationship has been that of friends rather than a boss-and-subject kind of relationship.
Far back in April, when the second term resumed, he started asking me the date of my birth, which I told him. He kept asking me from time to time, which suggests that he had plans for me on that day.

Unfortunately, when the day eventually came, he forgot.
He came to my first class; he was attentive and listening with keen interest while I was teaching.
After the lessons, I noticed that he said nothing concerning my birthday. I knew that he'd forgotten, so I reminded him. The excitement on his face was wonderful to behold.
He asked where I'd be later in the day, and I told him, and I was asked to come back to the school when I was done working at the second school.

I left him and went to the second class, which was my last. I only teach two classes there today.
After lessons in the second class, the kids sang for me. They also took turns praying for me, asking God to protect me and give me a lot of money. Lol

Afterwards, we took selfies together, and I left there for the second school, which is a secondary.
Over there, the students wrote me wonderful letters, which I blushed while reading. They sang for me as well. When I was done with them, I had to honour the appointment that I had with my friend—the proprietor of the first school I taught today. On getting back there, I noticed that the pupils had used poster board and a marker to make a design wishing me a happy birthday. I was elated. That wasn't all; a cake was provided, and we cut it to honour the day.

A close friend of mine had a traditional marriage today, too. While I was being celebrated at school, calls were coming in. Some friends had arrived at the event, and they were waiting for me to arrive so they could pass me their gifts and also say a prayer for me. I had to leave the school, but before leaving, the proprietor gave me a bottle of wine.

I arrived at the wedding and started receiving wishes from every direction. After the wedding, I took some friends out and bought them drinks and other edibles.
I enjoyed my day to the fullest. Some people went as far as sending money and airtime.

If I have to reply to all the messages I received, it will take weeks.

Though there are people whose calls and messages I looked out for but didn't get, their silence isn't enough to spoil my day.

It's still my day. Don't fail to say a prayer for me.
