In the world today, most people if not all tends to show non chalant attitudes and take anything they get for free with levity. In most cases, when something is giving to a human for free, they don't normally value it and they always take it for granted. To me, there are lots of disadvantages than the advantages of a free education.

For example, a neighbor of mine is a very good baker, she bakes different flavours of cakes, get lots of daily orders from her customers but her younger sis can't even say the ingredients her sister uses for baking. She preferred to be her delivery girl, all want she is interested in is the money she gets from the delivery she doesn't care about learning how to bake.

Imagine a situation like that, a training someone can get without paying a dim in the comfort of her home is been taking for granted because it's free.

Effects Of Making Education Free
The school will be overwhelmingly crowded in such a way that it will be very difficult for classes to hold and there will be great lack of basic amenities. This will be a very challenging thing for the lecturers because there won't be a quiet and convenient classes to learn. In a situation like this, there won't be quality teachings and the lecturers won't have a choice than to give out note without explanations.

My Experience
I attended a government owned secondary school and I had a worst experienced in my first month in school, when the government in my state declared a free education for all. When we resumed, we were more than a hundred students in class, no uniforms to wear nor chairs to sit, so we do sit on bare floor for our classes and most times the school won't have chalk to write on the chalkboard because there is no supply from the ministry of education. The first 2 weeks was like been in hell, I always go home very dirty like a pig and most times our teachers doesn't attend class cause of the multitudes and our poor sitting conditions.

After 2 weeks of resumption, our parents protested that the government should allow them pay a subsidized amount so that we can have quality teachings, the teachers also threatened that they will embarked on indefinite strike if the government didn't reverse the free stuff because the schools aren't getting the needed supports from them.

The government later held an emergency meeting, which had in attendance representatives from them and the Parents Teachers Association, it was then that they came to an agreement that we should be paying 250naira per term, in which larger percentage from the money will be for school runs and the remaining for the government. Within a month we all got our chairs and school uniforms because the school employ many carpenters and tailors to speed up the work.

Making Education Free will be a great burden to the government, the lecturers will be deprived of their entitlements and majority of the schools infrastructures will be neglected. Presently in my country Nigeria, many of the government own schools are now been renovated by their Old Students Associations.

How it will affect the standards of education
Even nowadays that we pay for education, the quality isn't up to standard hmmmm now let's compare to when nothing is been paid for

  • Lecturers won't be committed to teaching cause their salary payment won't be constant because the government will have lot of schools to spend on and this will lead to the deterioration of the system

  • There will be an increase in the number of students per class which will be very difficult for lecturers to handle

  • The schools will lack basic and social amenities, this might lead to the collapse of most school buildings

  • The level of seriousness in students will also be reduced because free things comes with no stress at all

Conclusion
I think education can't be really free but it can be subsidized so that it will be affordable for all to go to school. With a subsidized amount the school can help themselves out in providing amenities for the school community before the government interventions will be available.
