The Opposite Of What I Wanted

Greetings everyone, hope you have been well?

Growing up as kids, myself and my siblings attended a mission Nursery and Primary school, in which My Mom was also one of the teachers in the school.

As a child of a teacher, you have to be extra careful in all you do e.g when others are making noise in class you dare not join them because if you are caught your punishment will surely be more than the others or when teachers are in class and ask questions you should be able to answer one or two etc. So one has to be at alert always because responsibilities can be assigned to you, majority of times you see me reading or explaining one or two things to either my classmates or the junior class.

My school had a lot of facilities a child needs for learning be it for learning skill, sports, cultural kits etc. Every Friday was our fun time where we do have various activities like quiz, debate, sports, parade competition etc, during Monday assembly there is always a time to announce the best pupils or class that had done excellently well in those activities.

I was always call on stage cause I'm good in arithmetic and reading because according to my Dad ideology, if a child isn't good in reading the child can't understand anything, so Dad make sure that we learn how to read from Nursery class, before I got to Primary 3 I can read fluently. He do buy different novels home and every weekend he buys newspaper for us to read and learn new words (come see the way me and my siblings go dey serious reading newspaper, he might just open a page and ask you to read.... Chaiiiii🤣..... It was fun though). Most times other form teachers don't like me representing my class cause they know they are already defeated.

When I was in primary 4 an incident happened in which when I remember, it makes me laugh profusely.

My school received some forms from a Non Governmental Organization to assist the less privileged Pupils, though I wasn't on the assembly when the announcement was made. But when I saw some pupils filling forms I was disheartening that how on earth will the school give these people and not me the scholarship form.

The funniest part was that, instead for me to go and meet my mom, the funny me cried straight to the headmaster's office. The man was confused (he do call me my oyinbo cause of my complexion), he was like who beat my oyinbo? why are you crying? I didn't answer him ooo, I continue the cry. He had to call for my form mistress and my mom, immediately I saw Mom I stopped the cry because if I didn't Mom will reset my brain with slap cause she hate unnecessary display without reasons, you can trust African mothers now🤣🤣

So I later speak up, that I saw pupils filling scholarship forms and I wasn't giving and I don't know the reason. If my Dad should hear about it he will be disappointed in me, to my surprise they all started laughing and I was dumbfounded.

My form mistress now sat me down and explained that the program was for the less privileged Pupils those that are unable to pay their school fees and for orphans. Wowww😱😱 I felt relieved but also ashamed of myself for crying like a baby.

But who can blame me? NOBODY, I thought it was a scholarship in which I was left out.

Nevertheless, I later got a scholarship when I was in Primary 5 which made myself, the school and my parents proud.

This meant a lot to me because I never give up on my dreams, I strived to be the best and I still got what I wanted before leaving for high school. But I will never forget my previous crying scenerio of the opposite of what I wanted😂😂😂

As a child of a teacher, I as a student felt more ashamed than privileged, 😂 precisely because people could think I was privileged. So every time my mom wanted to help me with homework or test me at home, I was like: "no need, I'll do it myself". And like a true rebel, I ran off and did all myself, trying to escape the "teacher's kid" mold. I didn't even want to be the best student in the class. 😃 It's funny now that I think about it because of your post. 😊

Lolol! Asian mothers are also the same. They may slap and beat you to reset your software.

That's a funny story. You didn't even ask the pupils what the form was about but started crying about it. Hehe. I wanna know if your mother did some tuning to you after knowing this all or she just left you that day?

Hehe...
I know just how the life of a teacher's child can be. Everyone would expect you to do and be better, and you would have more eyes on you. I am also one myself.

Thank you for sharing this with us.
