Evidence of light bending | Observing the validity of the theory of relativity | Cosmology
We see the light moving in a straight path. As a child, I used to think that light goes straight. But neither light goes straight. The light also bends. The curvature of the light seems strange to me. Because the mass of our earth is so small, we do not see it bend in the light around the earth. Although light bends due to the gravitational force of the earth, it bends very little. Scientists have already found a lot of evidence about the bending of light.
Albert Einstein was the first to talk about light bending. In his famous theory of relativity he said that space bends because of mass. As the space bends, so does the light. This theory was a surprise to the world at that time. Yet this theory is equally popular. Scientists have found some truth to this.
Now let us come to the evidence of the bending of light. Light bends more because of its mass. The sun has more mass in our solar system. So in the light around the sun we will see more bends. The best time to prove the bending of light is a solar eclipse. When the moon comes between the earth and the sun, the best time to look for evidence of light bending. This is because at this time less light from the sun comes to the earth and any light source around the sun can be seen clearly.
The light of the stars behind and near the Sun is bent due to the mass of the Sun. The position of the star behind the Sun is not usually seen from Earth. But because of the mass of the sun, the light bends and the light of that star reaches the earth. As a result, the star behind the Sun is seen in a different position than its actual position. If the light were to move in a straight line, it would not be possible to see the star hidden behind the sun. This proves that the light bends. When scientists found evidence of this in 1979, they accepted the light-bending theory of relativity.
The matter will be clear to you from this picture. You can see in this picture that the light from the actual position of a star bends as it passes by the sun and this curved light reaches the earth. As a result, we see the star in another position without seeing its actual position. I hope you have a clear idea
There is more evidence of light bending. And we can get evidence from the cluster. A cluster of billions upon billions of galaxies is formed. The distance from one galaxy to another galaxy is great. Galaxy clusters like MACS 1206 lies 4.5 billion light-years from Earth. What is happening in all these clusters is observed by the Huble telescope. However there is a lot of evidence about light bending in clusters. clusters act like giant cosmic lenses, magnifying, distorting and bending any light that passes through them - an effect known as gravitational lensing. There are some galaxies in all these clusters that will look distorted. The reason for this distortion is the bending of light. We know that there is a huge amount of dark matter in the universe. All this dark matter cannot be seen, only its existence can be felt. The gravitational pull of all this dark matter is enormous. It is so powerful that it can easily absorb light. As a result, the curved light distorts the view of the galaxy that helps us see. The Huble Telescope's massive capabilities have resulted in 47 images of 12 newly identified faraway galaxies. In the end, scientists have found evidence of the curvature of light through observation of these images, which suggests that light does indeed bend.
