It has often been the most exciting experience visiting different location, cultural activities and even going on some voyages for market Friday buying things or sharing an experience of how their market looks like.

We have often left our comfort to visit market Friday but today, Market Friday visited me right at my door step with a twist to the experience.

Technology brought us so much advancement but it is pretty sad that in some countries like mine, the positive impact of this advancement may not be felt anytime soon because of the level of illiteracy.
Businesses, buying and selling and so many other activities are now done online, we have online stored where you can order for anything including your breakfast, dinners and any kind of meals from the comfort of your home and have them delivered to your doorstep.

But those who cannot adopt this simple lifestyle are found hawking their products and services.
I don't know how we should feel towards that lifestyle but while growing up as a child I totally dearest having to carry any items in my head, begging and seeking for who will purchase them withing my neighborhood.

Yesterday while resting around the mid afternoons, I sighted some number of traders hawking their wheel barrows.
Stepping closer decided to make this an exciting market Friday experience, the items I first bought were these two different species of tiger nuts.
Should tighter nuts be considered as fruits? I can't say and haven't searched that out on the internet.
But my mum has taught me a lot of lessons about the nutritional benefits of tiger nuts, we also use this in special occasions to raise an infant who losses his mother at childbirth.
The milky liquid is extracted and used instead of breast milk, it mist indeed be very rich.
I do consume alot of tiger nut for pleasure too.

After I happily got them I also found a bunch of other hawkers and all of these set sell different category of things. They were all carrying their products in wheel barrows from one location to another seeking for who to buy their good.
Hence I called the place a wheel barrow market.

Pepper seller

Phone accessory seller and numerous other passing by with different items for sale.

IMG_20230505_125722_226.jpg

It was in the heat of the noon and the Sun was really hot, they all decided to take a rest under the shade of a large tree beside our store hence it be like a mini market.

Another interesting group of sellers came by and I was very much interested in their products this time around.
Take a look at this charming diary product sellers. They hawk milk products processed into different forms for our immediate consumption.
There is one here called "Fura and Nunu" (A term from Hausa language).
A combination of millet and freshly pressed milk from cow.

IMG_20230505_132417_947.jpg

The Hausa-fulani are usually seen in this kind of business. They milk cow and sell the milk directly to us for consumption.
I have taking alot of this milk while growing up as a child but I am not sure of the kind of processing now, if at all they boil this milk to kill any germs and harmful substances.

Another product they were hawking is called "Wara" ( Yoruba term) Cottage Cheese in English.
Alot of people eat this cheese around here but I can't bring myself to eat this since I never learnt this from childhood.

Let's say that most of the foods I eat are what my mum has taught us to eat from childhood and any other new recipe that has meet us in our journey through life its really meet with much acceptance.

But I wanted to make a new friend and had to buy some cheese for the people around me. Bought 5pieces for 200naira.
We engaged in some friendly conversations and I told them to come around often so we can relate more.

This was how the buying and selling came to my doorstep/store today.
Talking about what my lunch looked like.

Here is a cassava meal we often take in Africa called garri.
Cassava is grinded, fermented and dried through frying over medium heat to give us this
We then soak the fried powder with water ad take it with any desired substance.

Tiger nuts became the substance I haves used for eating my garri today. I got some chilled water and sugar, together with the garri and nut, this became my lunch.

Is it not fun that only Monica eats from a large jug like this 😂🤓😂😊
Nevertheless mind I took only a small amount and what my stomach can contain.
But the combination of garri and tiger nuts was a brilliant idea and I enjoyed this.

But try and beware od stones and sand in these nuts else you make your teeth crack and go soar.

My partner at the store also enjoyed the cheese I bought for her and the market Friday experience was worth it in the end.

Tiger nuts are tubers actually, not nuts, but, you can order them on Amazon and they have organic ones too!

Tiger nuts!! I like them and especially the benefits you receive! For most Americans and many Europeans, they don't know that it is not a nut, it is a tuber! :) I think they are delicious, they have a sweet, nutty taste, I might compare it to an almond, yes? It has a lot of health benefits! For anyone looking to purchase them, they carry them on Amazon, even organic ones.

As far as the post, what a great post, @monica-ene! I love going around each post, taking my time, although I know it always makes me late...but there are a lot of posts and they are so interesting, I take my time. People take a lot of time putting them together, I want to give the same courtesy.

Isn't it amazing that even though it is fascinating to read the way business is carried out and it is a daily occurrence? The fact that you understand and can show compassion in this way is commendable. I love this kind of market. It has its place. Do you know how many people would love to do business this way? Sometimes I think that our modern world is not exactly the best. Are we really smarter? In some ways, in others, not so much. I am so glad you showed off this market. It really go some people talking about it and wondering when they missed it. Thank you!!! This was great!!!!! Garri and tiger nuts!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday
