Challenges of making a plus size blouse/DIY of a nursing mother blouse

Hello Hive

Here is my Needleworkmonday project for this week, a task I started yesterday and work right into the night.

It was one big task for me as I have never made a blouse with a large measurement. Am just to handling my own measurements and other lesser ones.

It happens that every woman that gives birth usually add this extra weight during pregnancy for the body size accommodate the baby and various pregnancy hormones that causes this increases weight.

My sis became almost three times her extra size and all her clothes no longer enter her.

She needs larger clothes and its either we purchase some or I design these fabrics into something for her.

Bust size was 44"
Waist size was 38"
Half length was 20" due to larger bust the half length was moved from 15" to 20"

I started this with making her pattern here and you can see how large this is looking from the paper.

Now in order not to design something I will have trouble with, I started with making very simple blouse instead of a bustier or a princess dart thy will cause issue.

But I have to give this some form of style and that's when I used the dart manipulation method to create a form of the bustier.

A waist and bust dart will give you the cup shape of a bustier here

Another thing I did was move the zipper allowance to the front so that she can zip and breastfeed easily.

This is almost completed except that am to scared to continue thinking that this will not fit on her.

I used to have the fear whenever am designing an outfit, always thinking that it won't fit well, and for my own dresses, sometimes I try it on couple of times while sewing.

Since she lives close by, she will have to try this one before I proceed with the work and you can imagine my prayers and all that this should fit and if I haven't made a mistake anywhere.

You can join me in the prayers too 😀😁, this blouse must fit.

Lol, I can relate to this. I made plus-size crochet wear once and I said never again. I had to unravel twice cause I wasn't sure it would fit her. What made it worse was that she stayed in another state and if anything went wrong with the skirt there will be no way to fix it other than to send it back.

Eventually, I finished it and it fit her perfectly, she was happy with it. I did love how her body made the simple skirt look so beautiful, that's one advantage with plus size.

"I made plus-size crochet wear once and I said never again"

😂😂😂 this is laughable.. It made my day.

I pray I have thesame testimony as yours.

Been thick is not an issue sometimes before you meet those with folding flesh everywhere. For those ones I just give up.

hahaha, my dear, I suffered! The most painful part was that I gave her the same price as I would for smaller sizes. I had no idea. Now, anything plus size I just run away.

I pray I have the same testimony as yours.

I hope you do.

The seamstress's lament: "will it fit?" 🙂
The good thing is that your sister is nearby, so you can check the fit before committing yourself too deeply. It was a good idea to lengthen the bodice to accommodate the extra volume of a larger bust 😍, and to share the increased volume between two darts - I think that will look much more stylish.
Also love the idea that you have moved the opening to the front for ease of breastfeeding ❤️

A funny one from you here.

Thanks for the honest and sincere kind comment.

I had her try it on today and I wasn't too disappointed, am currently working on a matching panel skirt for it.

Until am done I will like to share with us some basic tricks I found out and while making this plus blouse and am happy to see that this has taught me a lesson and I would find these kind of plus out fit challenging anymore.

Thank you for stopping by.
