There is time for everything like they always say. And that timing is an important guideline for farming. Although the weather condition is the most important dictator of the timing for each activities in farming.
It is another season for groundnut planting and we are at it already.
Before today and right when the raining seasons began we have been preparing our groundnut seeds for planting and breaking them out of the pods, that is the first step in preparation for cultivation of groundnut for this season, groundnuts aren't planted with the pods hence that process is important.

I usually call this groundnuts just like most people here, this can just be the local name as the well popular name outside this jurisdiction for this grain is called peanut 🥜. I have had people asking me countless times here if the groundnut I am referring to is known as peanut. Peanut is one of the most important crops we plant yearly and we are at it already.

The timing for planting of peanuts starts from the month of June through to the months of August. In some other region planting can begin as early as in the Month of May depending on the pattern of rainfall for that year. When planting begins everyone cultivates their groundnut farms and plant the seeds with their own timing and convinience.

Properly drained soil are essential for the planting of groundnut which is why you will see groundnut planted on even hilly/rocky ground.
The most important criteria is that any ground where groundnut is planted, there should be sufficient soil enough for its roots.
Peanuts bears their seeds in their root and once there is not enough soil to cover the root and give them an opportunity to grow deep into the soil, the productivity is reduced.

Despite this criteria some people still plant groundnut almost everywhere. The challenges still remains that there are no enough farmlands for growing crops here

Due to the current situation of insecurities most farmlands and settlements in the forests have been abandoned and people are moving closer to township area. Every available space here will soon be cultivated and planted with one thing or the other.
