DIY JACKET DESIGN : A Disaster in the making progress

avatar

Hello Hive.

Monday always got me πŸ‘―πŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒ with extra super excitement. Not only because I get to see your beautiful diy's on display but I get to speak with everyone again.
Like a weekly reunion, as I often times may not come around during the week to say hello and this may be true for some of you as well, but Monday is a must and here I am again.

Hope you all have been well friends and those who I hold dear to my heart.
I wish above all that you will live in love and safety, enjoying the best of the earth.

Today am not sure if am making a jacket or a disaster.
There is this thing about teaching yourself diy or having others teacher and worst still having an experienced teacher.
Fashion can be

  • Self taught

  • Learnt from tutor

  • Sometimes a combination of both.

The most important thing is whatever you are learning, do well to learn the right thing

I remember making my first jacket. It was a total disaster, though i had a guide but the knowledge wasn't sufficient. And her method of teaching didn't sink well with me, after about 2years I revisited this jacket here and it was not redeemable, fabric, time and effort all wasted πŸ˜”πŸ˜”.

And then again am trying a second effort at making Jacke. I so wished above all that I can get some help from @Olubato and @smilestitches as I have seen them make lovely jackets been their area of expertise.
They may be shy I guess or maybe I need to buy the knowledge with some HBDπŸ˜…πŸ˜ƒπŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸ˜Š

Nevertheless am making a jacket.
I have @Taimah guiding me through it but some ideas I may never understand until am working on the practicals myself.

This was a little tedious and I couldn't have it completed after my first work on it.

Here i have the jacket and its lining all sewn using thesame pattern.

How the sleeves look like

Here is the fabric I used and while I was cutting out the working fabric.

My working patterns.

A notched collar jacket with the lapel and collar.

My collars.
It doesn't interest me to postpone work due to power outage so I resolved to this local method and bought this charcoal iron.
Though it can do some vital ironing but it cab keep me working to some extent.

My jacket is nearly completed and am glad for this learning process but the collar fixing has some issues here which I hope to get some help fixing it.

Made this progress so far and still couldn't iron the seam lines, it all looks robust and not sitting well.

As a seamstress in the making I desired to learn the basics of every kind of sewing, jackets inclusive such that even if I don't make this in my fashion store I can always share my thought and ideas where a discussion relating to any form of fashion is going on.

Jacket learning in progress, Thanks for coming this far.

I have some sweet for all my readers πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

Thank you.

πŸ˜ƒ 😊 @monica-ene sincerely I must commend you for this you were able to achieve on your own, you really tried and I must say you did well.

Here are some tips for your next trial, I know my bosses @Taimah @smilestitches will still comment on this though πŸ˜†.

Firstly after cutting your fabric to shape, you apply air stay on them before sewing to give that particular fabric some strength and make it sleep while sewing and ironing.

Then make your stich tiny, not too tiny though and avoid loosing everytime.

Though there are still some errors in your cutting, I can put you through if you can create time and come down.

Good work dear.
