Experiencing some loss of our stored yams , A portion our damaged Yam and Yam seedlings as a result of extreme weather and severe heat

Hello Hive

It is really sad to see our stored food go terribly bad but nature cannot be competed with and there is not much we can do about the current weather conditions. Even though human activities over time is contributing to the hotness of the earth. We have never experienced this kind of heat and prolonged drought in this part of the world.

The Month of March is often when the rains commence here but sometimes we can have it earlier. Everyone has their fingers crossed waiting for the rains before commencing farming activities.

Just yesterday while I was checking at the sack planted yams here and the progress of the yams it occured to me to check our harvested and stores yams only to find out that a good portion of it is getting rotten already.

These yams can no longer be eating or planted, all gone to waste. Several tubers have to be disposed.

Now I'm making a next move to change the location of the yams, probably where we have stored them in the kitchen makes it more hotter.

These tubers contain alot of water and I have been taught to store them in a well aerated area with avoiding contact with heat or direct sunlight

Since we are not in the village where yams can be stored in barns
(Bans are usually grass housed built from fodders fodders do not accumulate heat, the roofing of the barns are done with fodders while sticks can be used as pillars all round the house, such places do not absorb heat and food products can be stored there for longer time.) the only thing I can do is to seek for the coolest places in the house instead of risking all the stores food and loosing them to rot in this inflation season with high cost of food. Even the seedlings here will not sprout 🌱 if they get rot or are not properly taking care of.
In the activities for today I will be looking at the most proper way to take care of these yam seedlings while we await the rains.

In my place, we still make bans on yam with palmfronds used to cover the top to reduce direct sun ray.

Sorry for the loss, Africa human
