How to protect your birds from Risky mating behavior that almost killed our bird, feeding requirements of actively growing poult.
Hello Hive.

These are our poults and they are one month old now. They are really growing at a very fast pace and we are actively watching over then.
Well yesterday was a Sunday and we were all at home, you won't believe that taking care of farm animals can be a little demanding as well. The number of actively growing turkey and chicken here has been growing in a daily basis. As soon as a neighbor sees the usefulness and benefits of raising these birds from us, they also find our every means to get involved.

In the compound here hence you will see alot of farm animals belonging to different people and everyone has made a sign on their animals that they can be using go recognize their animals.

It is very important to be watchful when taking care of farm animals. Just yesterday we almost lost one of the turkey.
The male turkey here are much larger in size than the female and whenever it is mating period there is always competition on how to climb the female. While trying to feed the birds yesterday I found a females birds that was almost dying after about 3males climbed in her for mating.

Here is a female turkey right under the males, in this position we almost lost her as it took me serious fight to drag out the male turkeys wanting to mate with her.

By the time I was able to seperated the animals she was already weak and took extra efforts to regain herself. Make turkeys are very wild especially when it comes to these kind of mating competition. Mating behavior like this are risky and can kill the females bird if one is not watchful and careful.

Being a month old now our poults are actively growing and their feeding requirements is about to change.
When they are little like from a day old, it is important to feed them with these ready made foods, the companies producing hese foods already know their nutritional requirements and rather than worry about what food is perfect to keep them alive we just go ahead and buy these.

I have thought about changing their food from these ones with smooth grannules to the ones made with rough grannules that are much more bigger than these but the company has advised that I feed them to this for at least 2 month of their life cycle before changing feed.

For speedy growth we want to make the choice of feeding them some quality foods so that they can all grow and start laying eggs at 6months. We don't know their gender yet, even as they have grown to these stage, as the growth stage progresses and they get closer to mating period, we will know their gender by then.
Remember that to also make raining birds economical for ourselves, we do not feed this bigger birds with the industrial feed anymore.

All of they grow up birds feeds from the leftover in our kitchen. They are no longer actively growing but are now ready for harvest.
We started with 2 turkey( Poults at the begining of the year), I am watching out see how much they will become by the end of the year.
