Fishing In an Overflown river , How young community Children risk their lives

Hello Hive.

This is the river that always flood our farms. Having posted earlier about how the water overflowed and swallowed our rice farm including those farms of the other farmers in the community, I felt so glad that the water didn't last long in the rice🌾 farms before the water level started going down. Looking at the way it completely swallowed up the farm even the tip of the rice farms were not visible, staying like that for more than two weeks in the farms will means that all the rice plants will get rotten and not live to produce a thing at harvest.

Look at the two young boys fishing without been scared that the ground just by the water is slippery.

You can also see the proximity of the river to our farms right here

Rice plant ☘️ likes water and swamps but excess of it means that the rice will get rotten. This particular river has its roots in another local government entirely but has cut across different places including the location where we plant our rice here. The river is only few meters away from our farms.

Constant heavy rains makes the river to overflow it boundaries, even though no defined boundary was created for it in the first place but the river is very deep enough and takes in a good amount of the water during heavy rains.
It has never run dry even in dry seasons, it is also a source of water for domestic use and gardening during the dry seasons and periods we experience water scarcity.

Bad communal practices contributed to why the river often overflow it boundaries. Oyun river has become a refuse dumping site for the people living here. Everyone dumps their dirt's in the water 🌊💦 and once that is done, the river becomes shallower rather than it's normal very deep self. Becoming shallower makes it overflow it boundary with the slightest heavy rainfall. It overflows it boundaries right into our farms that are nearby.

Another thing people do here when the river overflows it boundary is fishing. Having communers who have built that fish ponds beside this river in order to have access to water for their fish ponds. The river overflows it's boundary and flush away their fishes 🐠🐟 in some years when they aren't lucky.
These fish farmers are usually at huge loss whenever there is flooding like this.
Fish ponds can be created at other distant places away from over flooding river like this one so long as they can provide sufficient amount of water supply for their ponds rather than incurring this losses for themselves every year.

This often become an opportunity for teenagers to come fish in the river risking their lives to catch fish that was flushed into the river.

We have lost series of lives in this river while they were fishing but it seems like this villagers soon forget that people die here everyday because of fish, soon as there is a flood they come out to fish.
Last year my neighbors son a boy of 15 years of age got drowned and died, passing this same location this year I feel sad to see other teenager fishing 🎣 🎣🎣.

The river needs proper care and a bit of digging to have it go deeper rather than been shallow and overflowing it's banks every year to flood our farm. And there is just no way one can talk out the community people from dumping refuse in the river unless the government intervenes and places warning and sanctions.

I pray that there is a solution soon :( It seems like a little planning would change everything.

Certainly. And if the community can work together,we will have a better place and minimize the flood.

Thank you so much

Some people are so stubborn, seeing the place alone shows how dangerous it is.
What amount of fish will they get and risk their life?
I wish they listen and stay away from that place.
And I hope something is done to change the situation of this place.

Crazy thing is that they have equally seen people die there, yet they won't listen, those are some stubborn children there.

Wait! Aren't those boys scared? Some people sha, all in the name of catching fish. Well, I hope they find a way to work on that river so the flooding will reduce. Earnestly, it is so disheartening that farmers go through such things because if not for farmers, the world will be empty without food.

I dare not go there ...it's slippery. Farmers really go through alot, not many people value the profession.
