A happy new day to us, i do hope that we had the very best of the night. How time flies, that the weekend is already upon us. During farming seasons like this, time is ever hardly enough for us, everything has to be done under certain timing and once the timing is misses there will be an issues growing most times of crops. They must be planted and taken care of at such specific timing, hence we often work round the clock in this season, yet the time is never enough for us

If you are familiar with my blog, you will have noticed that we have grown lettuce for the first time this year but due to popular demand, we have decided to grow another session of it again. Lettuce is one of the vegetablea people enjoy around here but very few people grow lettuce. In fact my own father doesn't grow lettuce but I got myself involved with the farmer who grows lettuce here so that I can both have enough experience of growing this crop and also have something to eat from this myself.

Growing nursery lettuce.
The first time we planted lettuce here, the pre-grown seedlings were bought and planted after preparing the land but we realized that it was an expensive process to buy the seedlings. This time around we bought the lettuce seeds and planted them in a nursery. These were the lettuce we had planted in the 6th or July this year and they were about 4days old here.

Cultivation of the land for growing lettuce.

The next step is about cultivating the land. This is one of the hardest task about growing lettuce. Every other task may be very easy for me but when it comes to this one we have to always hire labourers to do so. We neighywr have tractors or even smaller machines that can assist with this task..

These are lettuce at two weeks of age. It's tabes a out 4weeks to grow lettuce in the nursery for them to be ready for planting in the field after the land has been cultivated.

Hopefully by the time this months ends and we take a step into the first week of August you will see how we would be transplanting these.
Alot of people enjoyed the first set of lettuce that was planted this year since they are not very common in the market it is often competitive whenever people get a chance to buy lettuce from the market when they are harvested. A whole acre of lettuce can be sold in a day at harvest.
