Investing in my career ! A new piece of working tools, an Overlocking machine.

Hello Hive

I'm pretty much excited that this is finally home with me, it marks the begining for ticking out my new year goals under the to buy list.
This has been like a burden in my heart for a while. Sewing loads of outfit without an Overlocking machine to give it neat finishing and neatly keeping down fabrics from frailing pose a challenge in sewing.

Fray fabrics are very difficult to sew when there is no Overlocking machine. And while I am looking into setting up my workshop/working space I wish to purchase all the needed equipment at hand. Some are very much needed at the start and others can be purchased later. Hence I am picking them one after the other using a scale of preference.

Brand new Overlocking machine.

While sewing the children Christmas outfits the duchess materials and lining gave me a lot of hard time frailing as I sew them, eventually I wasn't satisfied with the entire work. Hence I decided to find a permanent solution to this challenge

An industrial Overlocking machine is sold for 240k naira / $271 while that is yet a huge sum for me, the manual machine can at least give me some neat weaving/Overlocking to begin my business with pending the time that I can generate enough capital to purchase the electrical one sold for $271 and probably more because of constant inflation

The receipt here shows that I have bought a manual machine leg for 23knaira/$26. The complete machine set is 65k naira/$74. Before now the complete set could go for 35-40k naira but inflation had the price running so high between the time I had wanted to purchase it last year and today.

Here is one thing inflation taught me to always buy the things I needed now rather than procastinating about it. We can never predict if prices will ever come down if we wait hence buying what we need and when we need the is very important.

I was lucky to have purchased this head from a friend who was relocating abroad, but it needed a bit of servicing which I had left in hold pending the day I will get the working leg wheel today.

Below is the arrangements of my machines in my living room which will gradually be converted into a workshop.

Having all of the basic working tools often serve as an inspiration when one is sewing. I won't have to be bothered about frail fabric or some of these sewing challenge..
I could sew with the industrial/electrical machine (that big white one), make button holes with my zigzag machine, and interlock all the seam lines with the weaving machine I just got today.

And then I have this straight sewing machine as a gift from my late ma that I can still sew on it when there is power outage.

A feeling of fulfilling wraps me up as my dreams are gradually unfolding

I visited the store for the sale of machine and other gadgets you need to see the loads of working tools available, stoning board and almost everything I needed, it's hard not to covet the things here.😃

Fairly used machines are imported from UK and China for us. They are often serviced and we find them very useful for a long time.
I made my purchase some 2hrs before now and have been home to set up the place.

Thank you for the load of support and encouragement from all my friends both here and offline. I wish that we prosper in all our endeavors in this new year.
I love and cherish you all.

@monica-ene Those can also be called a 'serger' machine. :)

Exactly, that's the name

Yup! In American English it is pronounced like the word 'surge' so the 'r' at the end of 'serger' is silent. Glad that I could help.
